My question is, as I have not tried it yet, how do you get stuff you've smelted out of the lava without getting killed?
It's been said before. Throwing stuff into a 1x1 block of lava instantly converts it. Afterwards, building something into the lava makes the fresh items pop up.

And like the baseless fabric of this vision, the cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, the solemn temples, the giant Screen itself, all of which we inherit shall dissolve. And, like an insubstantial pageant faded, leave not a byte behind.
Naturally, I would have preferred if I still had my magic fire stone. Then you could just make a furnace with wood. Lava is so hard to come by...
Hmmm...
Wood/Magma powered furnace block?

Now if only I could find some lava. :\
Fascinating.
I have a PSN - Failular.
sorry, fixed, it know says I found out that puting little sand blocks into lava, gives you glass!
EDIT: So it does, good find.
glass is made up of heated sand and other materials
I know that, I'm not an idiot. I tried it because it didn't turn into glass before.

[I was hoping it would make bricks... *sniff*]
Make me glad draining water is a lot easier now.
I don't think he was talking to you.
I'm happy Notch put this in. Now we need a way of transforming lava into obsidian.
