Im using game mechanics to give me an advantage.
Sure being AFK is a shade of grey.
As i see it im not using any third party software to modify my game, or give me an unfair advantage.
I fight creepers and dont get hurt. Heres what I do: Use a sword: at lest a stone one iron wold be better. Try to stay higher than the creeper: this works for all monsters. it can't always be done but try. Hit and back off: Hit the creeper then run backwards then run up at it hit it and run back again. Do that till its dead. Stay away from your houses: get out and run away from your houses then fight. Dont get trapped: Stay in the open. You dont want to run and get stuck on a wall. and that's all I have to say. Hope it helps.

lol i did what sixafterfour did and i kept gettin shot by skellys through the smallest part. i blocked that part off and then before that i didnt have a roof cuz i didnt think spider could jump in from it. well idk if it spawned above me or jumped in but it did and i had a creeper drowning at that point and the stupid thing somehow put me in creeper range and he sploded and i died lol luckily i had nothin on me. had the items banked in chests nearby. my only problem now is spiders dont die too often. oh and there was a war above me i heard ssss from a spider fwooo arrows from a skelly and ohhhhhh moans from a zombie lmfao.
The cave i built for my harvester is 2 blocks high, and 40x40. Its built 5 levels underground and have no lights on it.
After 10 hours of idle on the dificulty hard i got 18 gunpowders, 6 strings, 17 feathers and 20 arrows...
I cant tell whats the problem with my factory... Help?!
How do you go AFK? Do you leave the inventory screen up and keep using your machine, or do physically leave the machine.
I have a chamber about 32x32x2 blocks with a trap modeled after yours at the same depth. In short stretches like 20-30 minutes I get nothing, and it does not appear anybody is actually spawning in the dark.
To afk simply turn your monitor off, and walk away.
A simpler design, since your underground, is have the trap connected to a dark chamber. Have your water currents flow to you when you stand in another room thats well lit. Make sure to spelunk around the "Dark Chamber" and make sure all spaces within 300 blocks of where you stand are well lit EXCEPT the dark chamber. Make sure theres only 1 way out of the chamber and simply go take a nap with the program running.
to AFK simply press "I" and go to the inventory screen, the mobs will still spawn.
Mine_ender, maybe keep mining your "mob spawn area" until you reach some natural caves. We both know mobs will spawn in those natural caves.

Is there some solid evidence for this? I keep hearing people just talking about making dark spaces and having mobs spawn in them. I have not had much experience with this, and I am playing on hard, but I am not seeing much of mobs outside my base or underground while mining.
Its probably a bug. Also mobs on hard dont seem to just instantly spawn in dark spaces. When I had my traps up and running I had a glass enclosure that i could look out from and down the tunnel into the darkness. It seemed like the mobs would spawn in waves. So you would get one spawn wave of like 3-4 mobs and a couple would die and then more time would pass until another wave spawned...
If you want to "keep" the gunpowder, you'll have to kill them. >.>
See the cacti in the image, above everything else? It's to stop spiders from jumping out.

can you just idle with that?

you dont need to be in the middle if you just make water currents flowing all leading to the center of the cave, would you?
I am here for you, Don't be afraid to send me a message.

Really? when I saw X play it seems that more mobs appeared on hard, the wiki doesn't say anything about changing levels at all http://minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Difficulty#Difficulty.
