I was just playing at 12:12 this night looking for the new mob sounds and cave sounds. I walked around for a good 15 minutes underground without finding any mobs or hearing anything other than the occasional stream. I started to head back to the surface when I hear this ungodly sound. I was scared so bad I jumped out of my chair. Notch, stop being so awesome, it scares me. :tongue.gif:

This text is just here to take up space. Congratulations. You found it!-Zachariasmith
I totally fail at Survival; even on peaceful.
Wanna know why? MY CRAFTING IS BROKEN. It won't craft anything but woodboards.
ON TOPIC:
I was cave-exploring 5 minutes after the update in my DREAM map. I heard a screeching whail (The screamer from L4D, most likely) I haven't gotten on Minecraft since.
I totally have to wait for SMP in order to even look at a cave again.
Woodlands?
I think you need to use infdev to get any of this stuff. not indev.
Well i was walking around looking for the trees i so desperately needed, all of the sudden I hear one of the cave sounds ABOVE GROUND IN BROAD DAYLIGHT. I fearquit.
I now sit in a cave with torches on every spot in a corner blocked by torches with all other parts of the cave blocked as i sit in the corner lisening the sounds of all these demons outside the walls and zombies moaning as the screams of the cave is heard from probally another miner who died many years ago. I sit with the sword in my hand while im peeing my pants.
I love the new sounds, but they give me ideas...
I was looking through the resources file where the sounds are kept.. and.. well.. I was thinking, could someone replace the sounds?
Because I really, really want to replace the explosion sound that is made when detonate, so that you hear the famous "WHAT THE FU-*BOOM*" clip...

The Slithery-Dee, he came out of the sea, he ate all the others, but he didn't eat me...
My Notch, there's this infuriating hissing outside my door. It's like Pwissish or something. What is it? A spider?
Edit: Awesome, we can now find out where sound is coming from. If I turn, the sound's direction changes.
Edit: Wow, this is great,I can even tell how MANY monsters are out there. I vanquished two spiders.

Allocators are no longer the future, we have Hoppers now. I still like them, though.
Yesterday i was exploring a cave Right next to my castle walls and i suddenly heard all this GUUUUUUUURGHH GAAAAAAAAAARGHHHHH behind me so i turned round nothing there so i thought i must be going crazy so i continued into the cave and the screams got louder untill ifinally got ot a cobblestone room and got owned by 6 zombies
I was just walking on a beach in broad daylight, and I kept hearing the damn skeleton bones ratteling. I couldn't find him, and it was so creepy, considering there was a swarm of like 6 pigs and sheep standing around.
Also, I've heard cave sounds above ground also. ****ing scary, considering I live on a 15x15 man-made island.
20 Bucks says there's a cave underwater near me. >_>
I think multiple people have hit it on the head so far. The idea of ambient sounds are great, but the current ones are deterring some people from playing the game. I think the ideas for dripping water, rats, wind, creaking, etc are awesome and would add a lot of atmosphere to the game. Right now the atmosphere is very jarring and fake given that the sounds aren't ambient, but instead trying to force a mood.
I understand that some people enjoy the new sounds, and that's fine. I do worry that a majority of the 25,000 + who have bought the game and new players alike that don't know it's coming are going to view the sounds as a cheap scare and quit playing.
It seems like such a small nip pick to have, and up to this point I have loved and supported all of Notch's design decisions. This seems to be taking the game in a new and confusing direction. Many times Notch has supported the idea of 'make your own story' and emergent game play, but now we're being forced to 'feel' scared when in caves? The sounds betray the players sense of trust. To the player it now feels as nothing is safe. It deters digging, exploring, and building bases all of which are core game play aspects. I think the noises either need to be replaced with something that fits caves or made to be an option so that players that enjoy them can use them while others that don't want a horror genre game can enjoy caving without cheap scares.
I'm not trying to start a flame war or trying to be derogatory towards Notch, as Minecraft is truly my favorite game right now and I think is one of the most inventive and fantastic experiences in gaming as a whole. I do think think that we as Minecraft fans have a once in a lifetime role in helping to shape the game and experience. Notch is one of the only developers that listens to player feedback and uses it to make Minecraft even more amazing than it is now. I don't think there is anything wrong with telling Notch how neat of an idea the new sounds are, but I don't think we should give the wrong impression that what is wanted is a horror game. There are tons of generic 'gotcha' scare games out there, but there is only one Minecraft and I for one would like it to stay that way.

But the new mod sounds are cool.
Youtube ftw!
I'm so sad though because the new sounds don't work for me. :[
The sounds are only moderately scary.
Overdramatic much?
(May be nightmare fuel!)
If we get ghosts, of course.
Edit: Typo.

Aww, no comments on this? You know it'd be awesome.
