Honestly you don't even have to live on a cattle farm to know any of this.
It's basic 8th grade biology. Females have mammary glands that produce milk, males do not. It's not rocket science.
Well, obviously. Yeah, of course I know that.
I'm just talking about the horns. I never knew that female cows had horns also, I'm sure many would agree with me. I don't really care about it much, as it wouldn't effect me in the real life.
Does your high school not have a required Agri-science course?
I know for sure it helps me out with my day to day workings here in the city. What would I do without that class.
Yeah, but he's doing it... angrily. He called me ignorant, that hurts my self pride.
But seriously, I'm okay with education, just don't try and be so offensive next time.
Actually the first aggression was from you.

No, I think he is just getting pissed that people aren't calling it what he wants.

enlighten some ignorant\miss-informed people. Now I'm not going to assume everybody as being ignorant but if anybody chooses to stay with their mindset after being informed then...
...does not have any direct aggression and merely states if you cannot change your position after hearing facts then you* are ignorant.

Yes, but not everyone lives on a cattle farm. I never knew these things, nor are they very important to me. I don't see the point in knowing them, either. As this information will never help me in my future. I know it hasn't ever helped me in the past. I wouldn't see it as much being ignorant as it is just uneducated in raising the bovine kind. But there isn't anything wrong with that. In the end, realize it's just a game and there's no need to worry about terms, udders, cows, or bulls.
I know not everybody lives on a cattle farm and I decided to add the un-needed information as more of an explanation to things, to inform anybody who wanted to know. If you don't care to know then don't read it. The fact that bulls will never have udders is something that just about every human being should fundamentally understand though.
Quote from Woodman1985 »
Also, I was making a joke. I know the bulls have udders, I was just trying to joke around and say the bulls were making semen. Yeah... it wasn't that great of a joke.
Sarcasm is impossible to detect over the internet. If you try to make a joke after being aggressive it will not be taken as such. If you want to switch tones drastically try to include a "J/K" or [sarcasm] [/sarcasm]

I'm hoping those "bulls" have antennas rather than horns, because that would mean that the cows underwent some weird widespread mutation that added them horns. Also, I don't believe bulls have a black hide.
The biggest difference between bulls and cows is size and shape. They are bigger and their bodies are built differently, I have not seen any indication of exclusive colors or patterns in cattle. Typically these patterns and colors are to attract mates and cows well... Bulls just take what they want.

They are obviously bison.
Bison have a distinct look and sound from cattle so I personally don't think that would be the case. Of course most people wouldn't know this well so it would be easy to make a mistake... at least on the sound side of it.

Also, for OP, you live on a cattle farm? Cow's are not female, "cow" is the catchall, females are heifers, males are bulls, I know that and I'm not on a cattle farm (beside one, but still)
Actually I have had this argument before as I once thought like that. It is standard and widely accepted to call them all cows but if you want to get technical:
The term is cattle.
"Cow" refers to a female bovine that have given birth.
"heifer" refers to a female that have not yet given birth. These may or may not be bread, (pregnant).
"bull" is a male bovine with his reproductive organs.
"steer" is a male without his reproductive organs.
"Cow" can also be used to describe females of other species such as elephants.
Cattle doesn’t have a singular form, aside from the technical term head of cattle. There isn’t a single word that means specifically a single cattle of unstated gender and age. As such, even though it’s technically inaccurate, cow is generally used in informal situations as the singular form of cattle.

Arn't they called oxen? :wink.gif:
Oooh a good question. Actually I don't know that one but now I am curious. LMGTFY.
So Oxen are steers of any breed of cattle raised specifically for being a working animal. Steers are more commonly raised for meat. So All oxen are steers but only a few steers are oxen. Of course I am sure they are eaten after they are no longer usable as work animals. At least for ground beef or dog food. Of course the usefulness of oxen has been replaced by tractors and quite possibly mules by those who don't use tractors. I'm looking at you Amish.
As a further note I will not go into Mules VS Donkeys VS Jack Asses.

Refering back to what <someone> said about roosters: Yes, that would be great. When day breaks we can hear the call faintly even when underground.
Contrary to popular belief Roosters do not crow in the morning. THEY CROW ALL DAY, and I hate them for it. They sleep when it is dark out and will wake when morning comes so they will start crowing, and continue all day. They are typically more noisy when there are threats around though. With electric lighting you will get confused roosters who crow all night too... *facepalm*

I am fairly certain that oxen are a different species entirely.
* What is an ox?
o Oxen are steers of any breed of cattle, that are at least four years old, and taught to work. Steers, in this catagory, that are younger than four years old, are called "Working Steers".
* What is a steer?
o A steer is a castrated bull.
* How are oxen different than cattle?
o There is no difference. Oxen are just cattle that have been taught to work.
* Why are oxen so big?
o Usually steers are butchered before they reach their full size. Because oxen are kept alive, they have the chance to grow bigger. A full grown ox is usually bigger than the bull of the same breed.
I know for sure it helps me out with my day to day workings here in the city. What would I do without that class.
Do you not care what kinds of chemicals are in the foods you eat?
Not every high school has the same required courses. For example, my shitty Florida high school does NOT have a required "agri-science" course.

EDIT: Oh gosh! Rox is quite right. These new animals should definitely be called reeds.
