This may also happen in survival but it happened to me only on indev. I was attempting to kill a sheep with my bow and arrow. I had shot it a few times I noticed it was jumping and still not dead so I got closer and shot again. The arrow bounced back and hit me! I also noticed how my other arrows were in the ground in front of the sheep in the opposite direction I was shooting in. The sheep had used a natural block against arrow so I suppose it would work with players as well.

Yea, everything gets a temporary invulnerability immediately after being struck. I think it's to prevent rapid-fire bow shots from gunning down enemies in one volley.
