Dear Notch,
I have enjoyed minecraft single player and multi player very much over the past few months. I have however noticed that the multi player has become more and more unstable. Where before there was a point that 10-15 people could be online and life would be good with little or no lag. Now even with 3 to 5 people online the server has spikes that cause great FRUSTRATION. Even on a vanilla server with monsters and mobs disabled and no mine carts or track this is occurring. I read you are going to BETA soon and think that the it would be important to have it stable to the point where players are not loosing diamond pick axes or stacks of ore because the update for the local chunk they are in gets confused. All I know is that the multi player product FEELS as if it is not in as good a shape as it was a few months ago even though we have so much more in it now than then.
I am looking forward to seeing how the product matures in the future.
Tereas.
PS: For those of you mentioning hardware specs...here is what it is running on.
SERVER:
Phenom II x6/8GB RAM/2TB 7200RPM/ATI HD 5700
OS:
Clean installs of both Windows XP and Windows 7
You're acting like the only part of the game worth anything is the multiplayer aspect. Single Player Survival is a very polished part of Minecraft, and it going into Beta seems perfect to me.

What's it like this time of year in Logical Fallacy Land? I hear the weather is always nice because the weather is always nice.
Are you kidding me? o_O Play singleplayer for once. Play it when you are waiting for updates on multiplayer. Multiplayer will be done when it's done, and not before.

I am a creator. This makes me infinitely greater and more useful than any war lover.
It's still not December 20th. There is a reason why he chosen that date and we have yet to see the results of it. He said he was going to fix the stability issues along with inventory and that accursed leaf bug.
While I can see why you be frustrated at the fact the game is almost unplayable. I've experienced many crashes to the point I don't want to play it now. Am I mad? Yes, but Notch has proven himself time and time again that he is able to follow up on his promises.
How about you learn to read thread titles :smile.gif:

How about you go find out what alpha and beta mean first, then complain.
Tell ya what then. You tell us when it should be ready and code the fixes that should define it as beta according to your specifications and we will go from there....otherwise gtfo.
How about you learn to read thread titles :smile.gif:
lol baby language anyone? How old are you ? 8 ?
The sentences are straight from the online Merriam Webster dictionary. I am 47 and have been a Systems Developer for a fortune 100 company for over 20 years with a total of 27 years in programming and 12 years in Systems Administration. Any other questions I may answer for you?
Notch doesn't need the approval of every armchair programmer on these forums to proceed with his business plan.
I never said that he did, I am only offering my observation of just one facet of the product. And as for your reference to armchair programmer, I think it is a futile attempt to make you feel better about your weak post. Professionals working in commercial applications development for more years than most players may have been alive on this earth I think qualifies them for something a bit higher than a title of armchair programmer.
PSA: Minecraft has been in beta testing for a long time now.
Umm, not really.... at all.
Notch hasn't released Beta yet, so that would mean the game is still in Alpha, and thus can only be tested as an alpha stage of a game. Hate to be obvious, but you made an obvious (most likely sarcastic) flaw.

Yeah well, you're wrong.
If you're not actually a programmer working on Minecraft, you're simply attempting to participate in the process indirectly or vicariously.

Yes I am attempting to participate in the process of development of Minecraft indirectly, we all are. We purchased a copy of alpha software because we enjoy it and see its potential. Now you go develop a computer assisted cardiovascular application suite for tracking and controlling laser catheters and also to do real time analysis of vessel walls in a human heart as well as live volumetrics....and have it work right the first time. Then you may attempt to infer my lack of ability through not so subtle, useless quips.

Loose means not tight like a loose knot on your shoes.
it is spelled LOSE, LOSING. With ONE O.
That is all.

Ummm thats pretty much exactly how its used in the gaming industry. Just because its a game doesn't change the rules of software development.
He dumbed it down based on the maturity of responses he received. I can't say I blame him.
Some of you people take logical posts and bend them into the OP making a raging slight against Notch.
1) That wasn't the case here
2) Get off Notch's jock
(#2 is general, and not aimed at the person I'm replying to in this post)
...
Maybe you should take a look at Multiplayer before making those type of comments again.

Oh hey. Look at that.
Perhaps you'd prefer "armchair project manager"?
