My pc can't play SMP and its literally P*SSING ME OFF! When ever i try to play it, it only takes one minute before my pc really quickly crashes. When it is finished rebooting itself it says: "Windows found a critical error and is now rebooted" WTF??? Singleplayer works fine though...
I've heard that i'm not the only one who have this problem. Is there a solution to it? Is Notch aware of this critical error? In anycase this bug should have quite a high priority, instead of those who cry just because they can't have hp. I CAN'T PLAY MINECRAFT WITH THIS BUG!!
To briefly explain program capabilities, it is not possible to crash windows XP or above by doing something wrong in a program. The underlying cause is always a bug in the OS or (much more common, and likely in this case) a bug in a driver. The program can trigger bad behavior in a driver, but it is not necessarily something that can be fixed in the program.
Therefore, i suggest ensuring all of your drivers are up to date, especially motherboard, network adapter, and video drivers. Install any OS updates that you've been putting off, too. Finally, it's worth scanning for viruses and other malware, as they sometimes can cause that sort of thing.
I do remember doing alot of those things not long ago, but it still crashes my pc. I think it has something to do with having problems sending and receiving the map changes. (It will crash ALOT faster, if I try to change the map) Besides, if it is the problem you suggest then wouldn't the singleplayer part be unplayable too?
Possibly. If it's a network adapter driver problem, single-player would not likely trigger it.
Windows XP helpfully reboots (by default) instead of showing you the actual error. (I don't know what Windows 7 does; i've never had a critical error.) If you want to see it, open Control Panel > System; advanced tab; "settings" button under "startup and recovery"; and uncheck the "Automatically restart" option. Next time it happens, you'll get a BSOD that lets you write down the entire error message. Post again when you get one, and we'll see if we can't figure out what it's doing.
