Sorry buddy but the server chatlogs can confirm multiple people were saying you had griefed or stole in one way or another and I personally know of a couple of incidents where you were following people when they didn't want to be followed.
We then asked you multiple times to leave those people alone, yet a little later groundhogbaby found you in his mine when he didn't want you to be there anymore. When we asked why you were there you stated "this was your house" when very clearly there was a sign up the stairs saying "groundhogbaby's mine: Keep out". That was reason enough for me for kicking.
I guess we're just not supposed to explore the map so much that it becomes too much for whatever router running it or whatever becomes unstable. I also don't see the point of making awesome structures, finding awesome caves, and all that stuff just for it to be lost in the end.
I KNOW the map will be downloadable for single player, but the point of playing mutliplayer in my eyes is to enjoy all of the pleasures of single player, including stuff lasting until it's destroyed in game, to be intact and explorable with other people. I don't believe that I'm the only person with the same or similar viewpoint, but if any form of entertainment becomes pointless, it's just that, no point to me, so I don't do it.
*Basically, I am going on hold from this server activity until there's a map that will last* for a month eh?But I'm just getting frustrated. not having the option of relishing in the same map with the same community is rather discouraging.
I am not trying to scold or offend anyone or any part of the server, but rather, just stating my viewpoint on a really crappy situation in my eyes. Maybe someone else will benefit from my perspective, maybe not, maybe I'll get banned for raging even though I don't see this doing any harm.
The members of the community here that have been around long enough to be considered 'regulars' such as Sinn, Netrum, Lech, Sham, of course Elme, and a few others, have my full respect.*Therefore, I'm not abandoning this server, but rather watching and waiting to see if there will ever be a long-term materialistic accomplishment that can be enjoyed by this same community for an extended period of time. This community is awesome and the people here I feel comfortable playing with. The problem with me is the community's hard work being lost to the void so often.

Edit: Oh, and I'd suggest Borderlands or something like that to restrict the size of the map.

Ambassador, I was thinking the same thing and therefor before I reseted the map this time I did add the plugin BorderLands. I will slowly extend the map as people explore, but in the end I have to remake the map. BUT Notch is working on some multi-world stuff, which means you guys will be able to teleport to the old maps later on.
I fully understand you frustration Ambassador.
Its not fun to create something amazing only for it to be deleted for one reason or another.
On the other hand we all have to understand that these things have to happen for it to renew itself.
I wish there was a way to keep all the structures and port them to a new map, but alas there is not.
I hope you still come by the server if only to just see how things are progressing and have a chat :smile.gif:
Ok, so I came up with an awesome idea which I have already put into place. Periodically I take screenshots of both my creations and my creations on the world map (btw my giant wooden ship looks rad on the world map) That way if the server restarts I still have a view of my things. Other than a picture what more do you want? You want to be able to show people what you made right? I don't really ge why the server restart is such a big deal. If the reason you are playing is JUST to build something then the picture thing should satisfy you. If you're playing for the fun of it and the interaction with the people on here like myself then the pictures are a bonus.
For you haters:
I get it. You amassed 200 pieces of iron and 50 diamonds. Guess what I have 12 diamonds within the first 3 days of the new map and I have no idea what to do with them. If you just want to amass wealth play single player.
I'm liking the sound of that multi-world aspect. If we could teleport to the old maps and still be able to interact with a stable connection, that would be great. And I think if borderlands is used, the members of the server should decide if the server map should be expanded. Maybe once a good map size is reached people should start exploring vertically more, or through caves and such, and of course focus on building with the materials they find there. The map doesn't have to be so gigantic that it becomes unstable in order for there to be sufficient room for constructions and the like. I think quality and filling the landscape should be focused on instead of the size of the map, so therfore borderland should be used strategically. Though I've never run a server before, some of this info I got is general knowledge, some logical thinking, and reasoning used on other servers I play on and observe.
I am just offering tips for the server so a stable map can be made that will actually stick around for awhile. Consider them or not, I'm just trying to provide strategies which may preserve the wondrous creations and relieve the stress of those impacted by map resets. That's basically the purpose of this post.
Edit: And I may very well return actively to the server at some time, but like Sinn said, I may observe for awhile and see how people are handling this situation.

I have to agree with Ambassador, we really shouldn't expand the map to where its going to need to be reset again. Nobody enjoys having a map reset because we lose everything we've work so hard on building, if we could just keep the map restricted to a certain size and allow people to build vertically as Ambassador said I think it would make people a lot happier.

Exactly what I am trying to do. I am starting with a small map though and slowly expanding to make sure I don't make it too big, I need to find the right size for this server to handle. At the moment I am running 750 blocks in each direction around spawn (I think). That may not be enough. I will max expand it to 2000, but I will do it slowly, to make sure we wont need a reset again if possible. I am uploading the old map atm, but it is almost 10 gibs and I can upload with 50kbs per second here.

I think one other possibility is a demolition crew to take down structures that are not marked and are in disrepair. Griefers come on all the time and hit things. If your house isn't repaired in more than a week, I am guessing you aren't on anymore and we can level the area for new construction. :smile.gif: Just a thought.
And Ambassador - Come on to play Spleef! No building needed!

Nice idea Corwyn, but I think we should just run around every now and then and check up on stuff like that. It is not necessary now, since them map can still expand.
@Cor: Spleef? Please elaborate. What is this Spleef?
Edit: Well, seeing as how we have a better idea how to handle things this time around, I'll start coming on again. Just be aware, that if there is one more map reset, I'll probably be done.
But anywho, I'll try to get back up on my feet in this new, and hopefully long lasting, map.

Anyways, I played a few games of spleef, lost them all. My pick broke on the first one since I kept hitting a person. XD

I am afraid that after reviewing the logs that I will not be able to let either of you back on. It appears that monocle you were griefing pretty extensively and that is not a nice way to play. :smile.gif: Connor - there is no evidence that your story about being given the 10 stacks of 64 diamond blocks and similar amounts of obsidian is true, so I can't leave this with a warning, but will have to let the ban stand. There were also hacked in blocks in your inventories, one example of which was double half-step blocks which don't exist in the game world. :smile.gif:
I am sorry that you won't be able to play in our server, but I hope that you use this as a learning experience for your next. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
As Dark Slave just said, also, my house was completely griefed (obsidian mining was 1s due to the new anti-block lag mod); a lot of stuff was stolen... including about 20-60 diamond ( I can't remember )... stacks of coal, wood, the lot; and about 500 redstone :|
Elme, that anti block lag mod you installed makes it so everyone can mine iron/gold/diamond blocks. Also redstone is now broken (lever and stuff never turn "on"), everyone can place water by using ice (not as bad though), and I still have block lag when more than 15 people are on, it broke more than it fixed.
ALSO: normal users can destroy protected chests and grab the items inside now.

Ok, please keep track of what you have lost and keep rare items in your inventory until we get this worked out. :smile.gif:
I have some secure storage in secret edge of the world underlava bunkers that I can replenish some losses from, but lets get this figured out before we do that. :smile.gif:
Please review the logs and ban joshchamp67 - Saw him grief mac10's place by putting a ton of sand in his house area, then I followed him and saw him destroying the police station. I didn't see him do it, but I suspect he griefed the ruleboard (covering it in sand) and destroyed some blocks on the welcome center as well.
Now to my custodial duties.... :smile.gif:
Addon: "Im14Wat" and "JR1994" came on the server as well. They both griefed the welcome center, and JR1994 was flooding chat with racist remarks. I kicked him both. A little while later Im14Wat came back on and started behaving himself, and then asked if JR1994 could be allowed back on. I told Im14Wat that he could if he abides by the rules. So far they have behaved themselves. I thought I'd put this up as well just in case someone complains about it or if the mods want to take any further action.
Hey, Cor, I have one or two of those double half blocks in my inventory. I didn't hack them in, they appeared when I was building columns with half blocks. If they are bad, I will incinerate them immediately.

Go ahead and dump em. They are from a glitch that occurred when some settings on the anti-block lag mod was working - not your fault!
Thanks!
:smile.gif:
Took care of the folks with the griefing Gordante. Thanks for reporting it. I checked through the logs and you were completely right - ban stuff, sad.
