When you get to the port forwarding screen for your router you'll need to know 3 things.
[*:3k2ncsxm]Your LAN IP: (See Below)
[*:3k2ncsxm]The port to forward: 25565
[*:3k2ncsxm]What protocol to use: Your choices are TCP or UDP. There should be an option that'll use both protocols. You want to select this option. (It's usually labeled 'Both.')
To get your LAN IP you need to open up a command prompt:
[*:3k2ncsxm]Windows XP: Start > Run > Type in cmd and hit enter.
[*:3k2ncsxm]Vista / 7: Start > Type cmd into the search box and hit enter.
Once you have the command prompt open simply type ipconfig and hit enter. You'll see something like the image below. The IP you want is labeled "IP Address", and in my screenshot it's 192.168.1.160.
Once the port is forwarded properly to your LAN IP, then go to a site like ipchicken.com to get your external ip address. This is the IP you give to your friends.
did exactly what you said still wont work my command promt doesnt give me ip address it gives me ipv4 or something like that and i used that then used the portchecker.com webstie thing they have to see if the port is working and it says it does FINALLY but then when i go to minecraft and type in the ipchicken adress it wont connect not sure if this screwed it up but portchecker.com told me to download this static ip thing since my router needs it and i made it static but then i made it dynamic again so currently it is dynamic so i dont know what that does but if that helps you help me and i would post screenshots but dont know how
