Now I can built a grand portal room in the heart of my fortress to prepare for the day it can open!
I really hope biomes make in into the update, but I can understand if it doesnt make it in. Hopefully he implements it in the way I imagine, which is significantly long distances between different areas.

oh you mean this game is still in alpha? gee whiz how did i miss that? sigh.
the game has errors/bugs. period. alpha or not. he's promised fixes and not delivered. most people bought the game for the promised smp. still don't have it.
i am perfectly calm. but i'm not going to NOT talk about the things that SHOULD be fixed before adding pointless stupid flying jellyfish.
Please, please don't refer to lack of full multiplayer support as a bug/error. As someone pointed out earlier, its a feature that is not completed. Referring to it as the former makes it appear like he made a mistake and hasn't corrected it yet. "Oh whoops, I forgot a 1 instead of a 0! There we go, health works now". "Fixing"(more like finishing) multiplayer is not as trivial as you may think, or it would be completed already.
We all want multiplayer, but don't get all upset because you haven't gotten what you wanted yet. Yes it was promised, no he hasn't given a date, so you haven't been let down. Patience.
So they're cacodemons? I was hoping for something a little more creative. Also, I hate it enough when I've spent a long time in an area and you can just see craters everywhere thanks to tons of creepers, I imagine this is going leave the landscape in horrible condition after just a night.

well, I believe they only appear in Hell, and Hell isn't supposed to be an easy place to build, so...
The important function that Ghasts have is that they make safe havens very difficult. I'm hoping that they can detect you according to distance, even if there are blocks in the way. They should just fire in your direction if you're close enough, blowing holes in your settlement until they reach you.
I hope that the portals can be any size as long as the obsidian completely covers all of the edges.
Here's one to get you thinking. Can you put tracks through a portal and use minecarts? :ohmy.gif:
I plan on building a circling track, sitting in a cart, and blasting Ghasts with arrows as I circle them in my sweet ride.
Also, it really doesn't take THAT long to get diamond, and you can use buckets and water to make your portal easily, as someone else mentioned.
Ghasts would totally destroy your track.
Oh, and no, you can;t do that. Minecarts wont go through portals, notch answered that question on is twitter.

A night?
Hell has no days and nights. Plus, I think the point is that hell, is... well... hellish, dangerous, hard to traverse, and full of craters and magma.
Also, we don't yet know just how common ghasts even are, we only know that they SUCK.

Go Notch Go!
Obsidian is basically gonna be the only thing you can build a home out of in hell.
also, so far, portals can not be any shape, but he does like the idea of making them any shape (refer to his twitter).
How do you get to decide that he's not delivered? I don't recall him ever giving out a time that SMP would be ready, let alone a time that has already occured.
The fixes will come, you impatient little brat. If you want to decide the direction of which a video game goes then go single-handedly create your own.
you clearly don't understand how alpha software works. but it's pointless trying to explain to people like you because you're completely unwilling to accept that you're wrong.
And you do, clearly:
most people bought the game for the promised smp. still don't have it.
...Maybe that's because the game still isn't finished? Seriously, why did I even reply to this, you're acting like a spoiled kid anyway.
EDIT: Also, "most" people implies 51% or more, wanna show some statistics for this?

This is exactly where the problem lies. You seem to think we should all play peaceful or hard mode. Well to tell you the truth, your definition of a challenge is not the same as mine. There IS a middle ground which many players fit into.
A night?

I'm just referencing the time it takes night to pass. Just because there isn't night in hell doesn't mean night never happens when in hell.

Oh.
Well, maybe hell will look different than the normal world, and just get cooler looking once the landscape is blasted to ****?
i imagine the first priority is to complete the sp and then make it work in mp. thats how i would make it.
no point in transitioning to the next stage of the game if the base frame isn't done.
your say you bought the game so your having expectations. pretty wrong.
you pre-purchesed the game. meaning you get what you paid for later when its released and until it's released,
stop complaining, enjoy your bonus of being able to play something pre release and help the developeres with feedbacks about the bugs.
back to the topic.
if you look even closer at the portal screen i think you can see that the dark line under the liquid is a shadow on bloodystone and not
meaning it would be
mining bloodstone should require minepicks! xD
actually if you look even closer than you looked... you can clearly see it's obsidian.
Open the picture in a new tab, then zoom in real close, the pattern on the bottom blocks is clearly obsidian.
and also, notch said you make a gate out of obsidian and then set the middle EMPTY part on fire. So building a gate would look more like this:

If you want to rage about your corrupted save file, open a notepad and rage there.
I would love to be able to make horizontal portals just so that I can kick things/people into them. Dumping my garbage into hell just seems so much more stylish than using a lava incinerator. It might make it a bit difficult to exit hell through that portal though, depending on how/if Notch decides to handle momentum between portals. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.
I like the idea of having to go into hell to get the material for lanterns. First of all, as someone mentioned before, it shouldn't be TOO hard to get obsidian, even if you wanted to mine for it (and not build it out of lava/water). One of the first things I do in my games is build a mineshaft straight down until I hit bedrock and just mine around for materials, and this usually finds me diamond pretty quick. When you think about it, however, no one is actually going to MINE for obsidian, its going to be created. Obsidian is kind of a rare thing to find.
Secondly, this forces you to use the torch method for temporary lighting if you want to stay safe at night or underground. If you could just build a lantern on day one with no effort, no one would ever use to whole torch mechanic for lighting. It would just be a feature everyone ignored. This way, how long you are forced to use this temporary lighting method depends on how long you are willing to delay venturing into hell. This way Notch can make it so relatively common materials are used to craft lanterns (I am thinking more common than coal even - maybe sand common) because the difficulty of acquiring them can be offset by the dangers of hell instead of just the the scarcity of the materials required to craft one.

I agree with that partially.
One factor you don't consider well is that the people that already know how to do everything are not going to be challenged by ANYTHING, really.

Holy crap! /v/ is crapping their pants about this so I though I'd share, these things are massive!

Look at the top left one, compare it with the blocks around it. These things are the size of tanks!

Dear god...youre right. looks like the four meter height he described is accurate. Those things are massive!
