Just saw the video of the preview version from indiegames. I did not realize the ghast were that freaking huge! that's pretty crazy but I like it. I also like the cool particle effect coming out of the portal, so much stuff to mess round with -- I'm getting a little more anxious now.... :smile.gif:

I really doubt that the hell-dirt is going to be a material in creating lanterns.
That WOULD make it ridiculously difficult to make them..

Here's helldirt, where [Dirt] = helldirt
Getting to hell is the hard part, but helldirt is everywhere, much more prevalent than coal, so if anything, lanterns will be EASIER to make, since you can mass produce them, and you always know where the resources are, unlike coal, where you have to randomly mine to find it.
And I do believe that we decided on bloody cobble as the name for now?
i dont think the hell dirt will be an ingredient and i call it hell dirt because we dont even know if it is cobble related and it would be stupid to call it bloody cobble and find out it is dirt.
imo i think that that glowing rock may be our new lantern ingredient.

Notch has already said, and this has been repeated many times, that they are 4x4 in size...
Hell and ghasts are gonna have alot of fire judging by these previews. I wonder how it will work in SMP were a small forest fire can lag up the whole server

Considering he's been working on improving SMP stability and wants to eventually get it close to acting like singleplayer. Who knows lol.
Am I the only one who is disappointed that Ghasts don't seem too deadly? From the videos I've seen, they just float around several meters above your character and lob slow-moving fireballs at you. An adept player can easily dodge these missiles, or just avoid the Ghasts altogether.
Still, since they float so high, it would still be incredibly difficult to actually kill one. That being said, the drops had better be REALLY good. Can't wait to see what they drop!!
On an unrelated note, has Notch said anything about there being caverns in hell? Wouldn't it be interesting if there were ghast mob-spawners deep in hell caverns, just waiting to rape an unsuspecting miner? I can't wait until I get the chance to explore this place!!
both of those previews were pretty entirely disappointing because they basically (and purposely i bet) sidestepped the torch/lantern changes entirely which i was really hoping for more info on.
i admit, it was kinda funny to laugh at the one guy who died like seconds into hell, but we didn't see anything even attempted to craft that was new at all :sad.gif:
oh well, i kinda figured would keep the good stuff under and key.
has it been confirmed if they can be horizontal or only vertical?
i mean, how awesome would it be to set griefer traps that have them fall into hell?
You have to stand into a portal for a few secs to take you to the slip.
So if you were to make on horizontal (don't think you can yet), then you have to make sure the griefer can't get out.
