there will ALWAYS be trolls. this is the internet. trolls are unavoidable. the problem is this forum is FILLED with stupid children who think they know everything. that's why we get so many pointless stupid threads with little kids asking completely pointless/stupid questions, many of which have been asked repeatedly. add that with the unavoidable trolls and you've got conflict.
Very true. Period. Though we do need to consider that there are a *lot* of new players/posters, many of whom are young. We shouldn't automatically assume someone is a troll - makes for a negative experience for some new and truly naive posters.

we are FAR too kind to stupid people and that's why there are so many of them. we need to start making them FEEL stupid and REALIZE they're stupid. this will either encourage them to STOP being stupid, or commit suicide. win/win either way.
One of the few legitimate uses of this emoticon (by its name):
We take stupidity, willful ignorance and laziness way too kindly in this world, and this is one of the big problems with it. And I hate how "being new" is used as an excuse for people who act like idiots or who don't read the rules. You shouldn't even be posting before reading them.

Oh well, the Halloween Update is one day away now. I guess there's hardly much use for this thread at this point.
*shrugs*
Yup everyone reading this who want facts and all that good stuff just go back to the OP (first post) thats what matters everything else here is fluff posts.
I'm seeing lots of people who are "new" and breaking about every single rule.
When someone points that out, everyone else becomes super-tigers and pounces on them with the excuse "OMG STOP TROLLING HE'S NEW!!!"
:c
If I wasn't so heavily addicted to MC and if there weren't so many smart people scattered throughout the idiots, then I would leave MCforums right now. But there are.

OK, yes I agree, you are right. Didn't think my comment was that extreme. Taking this in context - there have been a lot of pointless posts that could have been avoided had the member in question bothered to check the rules or search the site. Happens on every forum as far as I have seen. Can this be prevented? I don't see how, short of the banning some long-time members have suggested. Seems a bit excessive to my mind, however.

The first time I saw those golden blocks hanging from the ceiling in clumps like that I assumed they were hornet or bees nests or something. The cobblestone-ish design looks almost like honeycomb.

What about a warning, like a 1-hour ban for first offenders that failed to read the "read before posting" sticky and/or ignore the search function? If just telling them "please use the search function next time" really doesn't seem to work, then I believe a short ban is appropriate for first offenders. If they insist, however...
Enough with the off-topic discussion, take it to a new thread. Let's keep this thread on track while it's still valid.
So, the update takes place at 12am Swedish time (3pm PST for me). How bad do you think it will be with everyone trying to update at the same time? Would it be better to just wait a few hours to avoid any traffic, or is that even possible? I was planning on doing something else at the time anyway, so I would just end up playing on Halloween day. Gotta finish carving my pumpkin! (Let me know if you'd like to see pictures of it when it's done. Hint: It's a meme, and my costume is the same.)

Honestly I'm thinking there's going to be mass mass mass traffic for a while. I'm hoping/wondering if the Notchcave servers are up to it this time around. You could see the smoke from orbit during the last equipment burnout. Hopefully he's got the kit to hold it together this time, or he's gonna need to buy military-grade equipment for any future updating. I'm not even going to guess at your costume, I've seen too many memes that hurt my brain; but pictars, for sure!

Every time I come to these forums, I think more and more that I'm the only person who plays Minecraft normally.

I say it crashes big time. Gonna get it somewhere else in the meantime.
I've been compulsively checking this topic every hour.

Pyramid quotes are sexy... but yeah to solve your question on the update 'issues'... do you really think it'll be that bad for 500,000+ people to get a file that is less than a meg in size o.O. Right now my .exe says 220 KB, but considering it's probably a fair sized update, it could go all the way to 350! =0. I doubt there'll be any real issues as 500,000 people aren't all going to be on and downloading right away xD.

It has crashed in the past for things less expected than this update. You say Notch has better servers now, I say it crashes anyway. We'll see. I'm unable to get a legit copy of the game until he sets up the straight credit card payment he promised in his blog, so I won't get this update from the servers anyway.

Were... were you here for the last update? It literally ruined the main server, that's not hyperbole. Notch had to do all kinds of emergency backroom stuff to get new equipment and move into a cloud system, all on-the-fly during just crippling server swamps. It's got zero to do with filesize, and everything to do with the fact that, yes, there will be vast numbers of people hitting it up all at once. This update is highly anticipated by many people. There's 65000+ people on this forum alone. The DDoS attack on the server just a bit ago was actually less damaging server-wise than the previous update.
