I've seen a lot of posts about "why go into the nether? there are no good items there and your most likely to get killed". Something you guys may have forgotten is that the nether was traditionally made to be used for transport, and on my account it's a great way to make outposts out on the fringes of your map. I'm just telling you people who don't like the nether
Nah. Why go to that effort when the OP can easily be shot down by pointing out that a) there are too many bugs in the portal placement code to use it well for that purpose, and :cool.gif: between the flammable terrain and the fireballing ghasts lighting said terrain at every opportunity (not to mention knocking out the portals themselves, which just makes the portal-spawning bug *worse*) the nether is too *dangerous* to be used for that purpose, and you're better off just making a path in the normal world.
What is brimstone? Is it the material people think will make lanterns?
Even if it's not, their might be your answer. Lanterns. Although we can't be certain you go into the netherto get them, if you do, there's your reason.

I was once mining out some iron, and the lava
fell in me.
But I lost 120 pounds in 4 seconds thanks to Lava!

Brimstone is the red stuff you see all around the nether, light-stone/australium is the glowing glass like stone. Brimstone + = infinite light source that's only drawback is its on fire and thus can't be used around wooden stuff. In the future we will be seeing more brimstone on fire in the normal world then we will lanterns and torches simply because its the most easily mined.
Heck even around wood this would be easier then mining more lightstone or *shudder* trying to find more pumpkins.

red=brimstone
Ps: try using TNT in the nether its weak as dirt
Not brimstone, its netherstone, official is always what notch calls it, and so far its the only nether-material he has called by a name.
Give this man a medal.

2) nothing in the nether worth getting
