I don't think we need another dimension. The Nether has its purpose - fast travel at high risk. What else is needed (that also makes sense from a game balance POV)? I can't think of anything obvious.
What I woouldn't mine seeing is a reskinned and reworked Nether. To me the whole rivers of lava and bloddy cobble is just a bit formulaic, preditable and trite. To me it would have been much more interesting if the Nether was quite different. I dunno, imagine a cold, spooky environment with lots of dark blues and purples. Perhaps OpenAL could have been used to make all sounds there echo to enhance the emptiness of it. (Can you imagine ghasts wailing around the place in that kind of environment?) I guess, perhaps, what I'm thinking of might be considered to be something like the Nether but after it had got old, it's fires had gone out* and all that was left was the ghosts and desperate hangers-on from a once vibrant and life filled (but not necessarily nice) dimension. It should "smell" of age and decay and I think the main world's proximity to such a dimension would help explain the nature of the mobs that come out at night in the main world.
Of course, it won't happen but I think something like that would have been more interesting and less "off the shelf" than just another "oh, it looks a bit like hell" section in the game.
*when I say "fires had gone out" I don't necessarily mean no fires and I certainly don't mean no danger. Imagine, perhaps purple "cold fires" with an eerie light that freeze the player, and rivers of something that isn't lava - but is just as dangerous.
Oh, and I'm very much with Tarman and his opinions on a Christmas update.
That sounds beautiful. Scary and beautiful. I have always loved the concept of a cold, dark, deep ocean blue/purple area, perhaps with some dark teal and green too. I would not have ghasts their though, I would have mobs that make similar sounds to the ambient sounds, to add to the creepiness. and the ambient sounds would play regardless of whether you are in a cave or not.

Ghasts always did seem like they would fit better in a depressing environment over a lava filled one.

I was once mining out some iron, and the lava
fell in me.
But I lost 120 pounds in 4 seconds thanks to Lava!
[Notch] Before
[Skeleton] After!
I'm fine with just having the nether. I'd rather not have a boat load of other "Dimensions." You can have cool stuff in the normal world too...
Also heaven is definately not cool for the reasons following. A.) There isn't a hell. It's the Nether (Or core or whatever he might change it to in the future.) and B.) Notch has already stated he wants to get away from any sort of religous labels. It was a place holder name to fit into a seasonal update.

Science is good when it teaches you how to turn a million ungrateful foreigners into glass.
Notch puts a big update out on a holiday and now every tard thinks that a big update has to come out on Christmas and then Easter and then blah blah blah.
Actually, I would recommend to the one above me, to be a better help to the community, post something helpfull, instead of pointing out peoples flaws, thats an easy game. As for adding a new dimension, Heaven wouldnt have any dangers, you need to think of something dangerous, but still usefull.
Who says it wouldn't be dangerous? It obviously wouldn't really be named heaven with Notch's political correctness, so there'd probably be angry birdmen flying around and floating blocks.
EDIT: (got rid of second paragraph, I'm probably going to get flamed for it)
If we had a "heaven" I don't think it'd even be a new dimension. It'd just be a higher sky limit (shut up, yes we do need it, I can't build my replica of the Citadel) and a way to get floating blocks/magic wings that let you fly.

We didn't say that, this is a forum for suggestions. It seemed like a logical progression from Hell. Learn to not take things personally, bro.
Not necessarily another dimension, but another place. I'm thinking of the moon. You could build a spaceship in a similar manner to the portal, blocks placed in a specific formation and then something to activate it. Flint and steel could ignite the engine or something. Enter the spaceship and a loading screen comes up. BAM you're on the moon low gravity and all

Every time I come to these forums, I think more and more that I'm the only person who plays Minecraft normally.

Heaven (Or just "Ven" to avoid religious affiliations) will have giant 4x4 cloud monsters known as Ghusts, that shoot a sub-zero snowball at the player. When the sub-zero snowball misses and hits another block, it will turn the blocks near the impact point into Ice.

It could try to blow you off the clouds because of the name. Like a gust of wind.

Heaven. It's what we need.
Come on guys, it's common sense. Maybe Notch can make angels evil and such. And holy water, well... That can be a resources, and maybe cloud blocks? Golden buildings maybe, too!
Correct me if im wrong but... i think it was everywhere he talked about the nether?
My football team is the Russian bears on unicycles.
that would be pretty dangerous.
i'd like a way to get to the moon.
but maybe befor that we could get flight or dragons.

Screw alternate dimensions, we already have alternate dimensions. And it needs some bulking up to do.
