that's the only way you can get ice in your inventory.
Offtopic a bit, but I think it would be nice to be able to make ice - perhaps by "casting" it in "cold" biomes?
Like, make a huge ice-cube tray of sorts, maybe out of snow or wood:
D'oh, that wouldn't work because it would turn into water as soon as you smash it.
Uh... well, there should really be a way to make ice. It's not that terribly different from using a bucket; moreover, if it could be crafted I'm sure that Notch would have it so ice immediately melts and evaporates in The Nether.
Perhaps an icebox? Maybe a special chest to store food in so it won't spoil or something:

Where is snow.
And perhaps you could put a bucket of water in there that would "freeze". You could then craft the "ice bucket" to separate an ice block and empty bucket.

A cold furnace!
That sounds pretty interesting. Maybe have a craftable icebox, like this:
[]
It functions like a furnace, but instead of using coal, snowballs chill things down. However, this would be an expensive item. Alternatively, use the existing furnace, and using snowballs in place of coal converts the furnace to a freezer. This would necessitate finding a snow biome.
However, the potential applications for this are rather limited. You could freeze water, but that's really about it. There's an idea going around for bluestone/purplestone used in conjunction with redstone to make circuits more compact, and maybe such a utility could facilitate that, but I really don't know. Food doesn't spoil, so that's not exactly an option or a reason.
There's plenty to drink in Hell, you want to know what there is to drink?
FIRE!
Fire is burning (or superheated) Oxygen, thus, a gas.
You can't drink a gas. You could probably inhale it, but that would probably kill you.
I have no comment for this dispute but i just wanted to point out that in Monk321654's sig it says that his color is white and his enemies are black and red. Nyuckas and injuns anyone?

Be a real man. Drink the blood of fallen pig-men. I hear the one who are too scared to live alone taste the sweetest.
