I saw someone else post a screen shot a few days ago of a dungeon visible from the surface due to sand caving in. So - I decided to start up a new world and take a hike around on peaceful to do some looking for myself.
Imagine my surprise when I stumble across a similar caved in area of desert with a MOB spawner clearly visible from the surface!! Then as I run around to get a better look what do I find? ANOTHER DUNGEON immediately adjacent to the first one also visible from the surface!
Looks like deserts may be ideal for easy dungeon hunting!
I dug some sand out so I could capture both spawners in one screen grab from the surface of the sand above...
When I started my new world, I traveled a short distance and found a desert, and saw a cactus. I was like "ZOMG CACTUS!!one!" but then I looked beyond and saw about 20 of them
Well, dungeons are still incredibly rare, and having them spawn at sea level is also pretty hard. Most of them time, they spawn a lot deeper. But on one of my way-old, pre-Boo saves, I had TWO beach dungeons, and a third dirt-buried dungeon also at the surface! I guess maybe dungeons aren't that rare, I've just been rolling ones for Detect Dungeon lately. Too bad I was still a newb2minecraft at the time, I really could've used the mossy cobble.
But yes, having one spawn right below sand is really good. Too bad a buried Mob Spawner isn't a disabled Mob Spawner. Stupid zerg-rushing zombies...

I agree, because on my new world I started the night of biome release, and I spawned in a desert biome and there was 1 block caved in. I was like FksfmSAKSNMKASNSN.
Today I created a world and I spawned on the leaves of a tree. I thought that was odd enough and was going to post about it, but the first thing I saw when I looked over the edge was:
It's just a beach, not a desert biome, but still...
is it not possible? I mean, you can't pick them up... but cant you put blocks around them to stop the spawning? then build a small room or device that would kill them with water or something? almost like a free mats generator!
I remember i made a new save. walked near to a mountain to get some coal. but then i saw a intrence to a mob spawner. i was like WHAT?! :biggrin.gif: next to my spawn. will post picture of it when i get home.
In SMP, I found a rectangular pit in an unexplored area. There was sand at the bottom, but you could see a bit of cobble at the bottom of the sides. There was water pouring in, as it was right next to a bay-like thing. I dug out the sand and it was a dungeon :biggrin.gif:
I've also found dungeons that were completely underwater in SMP. It was just a rectangular pit with sand at the bottom, like before, completely underwater. And obviously, there was a dungeon beneath.
Although, tons of people have probably found dungeons like this before, and in SP <.<

Yesterday, just generating worlds and exploring them, I found three dungeons in just that way-- see a squarish hole in the sand and go check it out.
It's just a beach, not a desert biome, but still...
You are logically a spider.

School = Botnet. :3
I can't argue with your logic.
*spiderjumps on you from the top of the tree*
Lmao. This ^
With dungeons inside of them?
AHMG.
But I know what you mean. I spawned in a desert with a mob spawner like 14 or so blocks away.
