I decided to post chapter 1 of my Minecraft story here. I'm going for an ultra-realistic style here. I'll continue or not depending on the feedback I get.
Chapter 1:THE SPAWN
Suddenly, a consciousness appeared. Out of the murky depths of nothingness, out of the blackness of nonexistence, it appeared. At first small and very fragile, it immediately began to grow. New layers of reality thrust themselves upon it. First came the concept: "I". A thought, both complex and simple; "I" gave the consciousness an identity. It was a sense of completeness, a substantial base from which to expand from.
And expand it did.
First came its body. The consciousness moved outward, exploring the things it was intimately tied to. It could control these things, move them by will. Each new cell a discovery, each limb a marvel, it finally came across the boundaries of the network of connections. He could move his arms and legs, collide his parts with different and unfamiliar surfaces. He could feel things against them; sense when a particular part of it was in contact with something else. He found himself to be lying face-down on a strange grainy substance. Slowly and methodically, he sat up. And then he opened his eyes.
Information flooded into his mind like water bursting through a dam. The most basic concepts called themselves to attention first, things like color. These were easy to understand. Then came the more complex and difficult. His mind grappled with the unfamiliar concept of three dimensional space. And once he understood what he was seeing, and what sight even was, his surroundings called attention to him.
He was sitting on a great sandy shore: an endless expanse of blue to his left, and a sea of trees to his right. Enormous hills framed the horizon line, over which, a square yellow sun was slowly rising. The sun hurt to look at, so he averted his eyes elsewhere. The scene was vibrant and colorful. A breeze rustled the leaves of the trees, testing his hearing. Warm sunlight flooded through the valley, testing his ability to feel. In his mind, the torrent of new concepts finally dissipated, leaving behind a clear, serene feeling. Shakily, he stood up. He took his first step forward.
