1. They are quite hard to tell apart. I see four types of Biomes, Forest, Tundra, Plains and Desert. No others.
2. You can't make a microworld. I have wanted to do this ever since Biomes were announced, but because they use colour changing and grass/leaves, instead of different types of trees and ground, this idea cannot work.
3. Biomes I wanted are not there. Swamps, Oceans (including underwater forests), Tropical Islands (effect size of biome too) and Mountains (BTW, these are all legitimate Biomes) were all not included, and yet we have about four different types of forest and plain which look the same.
4. Lack of Biome specifics. I know that in the future, mobs and blocks are planned to be Biome specific, but my worlds of amazing beaches and cliffs and caves are so much better, even though they are pretty much the same the whole way through. I miss these things.
5. See above. I miss all the old things that could spawn that are so much rarer now. I have not seen any epic beaches in non-desert Biomes yet.
6. I has made my world more ugly. My grass is silly now (the colour, and the lack of side blending) and my trees are odd.
7. Finally, there is no "Normal" Biome. I would like to see one Biome, which just uses the old spawning algorithm. It doesn't really make sense to classify everything, and I really need one area that I can make the world around me seem amazing from.

Just because it's alpha, doesn't mean I can't vioce an opinion I why I dislike the current Biomes.
Infact, without that, they may likely not be changed to this. It's a similar thing to how, if no one had ever talked about Biomes in Minecraft in the first place, they may not have been added (not the best of examples, but it fits)
Instead of trying to shut down a thread, give contributing to the discussion it mentions a try. You would be surprised how much better someone reacts when you do.

The biomes you are most likely coming across are savannah, tundra, shrubland, forest and desert. Shrubland and savannah plains and swampland are relatively simmilar at the moment.
There are actually more than 4 biomes, the difference at the moment with some of them is hard to notice.
Check this post for the algorithm data for biomes.
You'll notice that swamplands are relatively rare, in comparison to forest, savannah and tundra. Also, seasonal forest is pretty much the "vanilla" biome.

and by swamps, I meant the dark kind, with lots of water and things like reeds.
Also, it's not really vanilla, It has nowhere near the original layout of a Minecraft world. I miss beaches, both gravel and sand wise, and my amazing over hanging cliffs and mountain ranges spurting lava into lakes. I just don't see things like that anymore, and it saddens me greatly.
EDIT: the weather also disappoints me, with no rain, how can it be called a rain forest? (again, I know this is planned, just pointing it out)

As I said, look at the thread I link in my post, you probably haven't even come across any swampland yet because of the relatively low chance of them being generated. Also, the size of biomes is currently (popular belief) too small to really get a feel for the actual biome.
There's really no need to jump down people's throats because they don't fully agree with your opinion, and you should really expect people coming here to flame you because of the incredibly negative undertone to your post.
The main problem I have with the Biomes so far is how tiny some of them are. Maybe it's just my world, but the desert areas I have found so far are tiny. I agree with you on most of your points, but this is so new we just gotta be patient.
If we're just throwing around ideas, I personally would eventually like to see season specific Biomes. For example the desert would always remain the same, but once you enter the forest areas, it'd snow every once and awhile, then go back to being green again. In spring maybe have it rain in these areas occasionally, ect. This system would probably need a calender of some sort implemented though. But, maybe I'm being unrealistic and too demanding, I'd imagine that'd be quite the task to program.
It's alright to dislike current biomes. What Notch has now is a placeholder. He most likely will tweak them and add more biomes in the future, so patience is key here.
Don't worry OP, you can take anger out on me. Just don't complain to notch. Please. IF you do, then what happens is he tries to rush an update and this same thing will happen. Maybe he will add this to biomes later.
Edit: wait, I just got a huge mountain and this said mountain is what I believe is just a generation luck. I think you must be lucky to get mountains.

"It's not nice to hate anybody, unless the person you hate is a complete idiot."
saying that the game is in alpha doesnt help anything. Sure, it informs the OP that this game is prone to non optimal gameplay and bugs, but does it fix any of them? no. It would probably be more usefful, OP, if you stated any ways you think we can fix this problem, and ask for others opinions on the suggestion and also ask the viewers to post their idea. But then, this forum would be very small, as the suggestion forum would be (even more) flooded.
Now, OT:
I do agree that biomes, while cool, are NOT done yet. One, they are way too small, or at least, their size is too random. So many people agree with changing the size to make biomes bigger (if you wouldnt like this change, however, plz feel free to tell me why.)
Your suggestion of new biomes are actually very cool. If there is enough time, they should be implemented.
The biome specific things are cool too. In fact, I think the limitations should be very rough, encouraging exploration. Like you start in a forest, and must find a desert biome to get sand, needed for glass. Or vice versa. To make this a little easier, however, you should probably have a forest, a desert/beach, and any other biomes having REQUIRED materials spawning in render distance (far, of course, and not easily noticeable) of your spawn point.
I cant think of much else now, but if you have an opinione on my suggestions, or ideas of your own, feel free to tell them to me thru this thread.
GUYS you gat to see the difference between complaining and opinion.
Alpha is a phase with lot's of bug, but he didn't said: "OMG fix them!!1one!"
He said is opinion on what COULD be change in the FUTURE.
So pointing out that this is alpha make no sense. Let's say nobody tell there opion, well minecraft beta will be the same as alpha. Now he had 7 reasons that he explained and i saw them and they made sense.
So please before saying this is alpha read the thread.

Has far as i remember biome was added in the halloween update?
This forum is made to separate suggestion about random thing and suggestion to fix thing that were just added.
So he's at the right place.
GUYS DONT TALK ABOUT THINGS THAT ARENT GOOD THE GAME IS IN ALPHA PLAY ON PEACEFUL.
If someone pays money for something they have the right to complain about it. Hell, if someone doesn't pay money for something they have the right to complain about it. If you don't want to read criticism don't ****ing read the criticism. Constructive stuff like this is what makes games better. Just a FYI, but you aren't required to kiss Notch's ass simply because "alpha" is written on the website. "Alpha" doesn't really have a codified meaning, and it usually doesn't imply at all "available to the public and selling 7000 copies a day" so all of you dipshits that think this is a justification for lazy updates need to get some perspective. I swear, this community has a lower average intelligence than any other I've seen, and that's saying something. It's ****ing ridiculous.

no need for that kind of language. Talking about a community average intelligence while screaming make you look like the one with the problem. Notch wasn't lazy in this update. He only made a few mistake and the OP said the one he found anoyying, it wasn't complaining. It's opinion, now please calm down before you drap the OP with you.

I haven't created my own new world yet, but as far as I can see, there are less mountains, and more trees.
Also, like what others said, I can't distinguish the difference between some biomes.
