Anybody else having this problem? I'm trying to till grass to get some seeds, but all it ends up doing is digging the dirt. Plus the hoe is indestructible.
I'd suggest pimp-slapping, but if she's indestructible then you can't exactly instill much fear.
So, the update sucks because it's not what you expected, or because there are bugs in an Alpha game?
Because if it's the latter, then buddy, I hate to break it to you ya, buuuut that's sorta the point. Even when it moves into Beta it will be full of bugs. Nature of the beast.
As much as I like the game, I have to say that the update is pretty underwhelming.
It doesn't really help that there was a four month period prior to this update where pretty much nothing important was added. I know he's starting a company and all, but come on.

I wonder how many people here who are bitching have ever made a video game that sold and ended up hiring a team...?
How many have ever made a game (Even a decent flash game would do)...?
How many have made one with an existing engine (UDK, Unity, CryEngine)...?
Used simpler engines like RPGmaker, FPSmaker, or ZeldaClassic to make games...?
I'm not banning free-speech myself, I'm saying I don't agree with being a **** about frequency of updates, or the quality of a ****ing ALPHA!!!!
I'm fine with people bitching about it, as long as they are ok with me bitching about their opinions, because on the flip-side I have the freedom to say I disagree.
Hitler: Yeah he only committed genocide, but how many of you have actually created an empire and turned it into a superpower?
See what I did there?
Because and under development game and the genocide of an entire race are the same thing completely
Wow do you even hear yourself. Does a 14 dollar game mean that much to you. I can wire you a 20 bro. just sayin

it's alpha. yeah i know that shouldn't be a carte blanche excuse for everything but it's the truth. you paid for a work in progress. bitching about it is futile. trying to make it seem like those who enjoy it while enduring the flaws are mindless drones is immature. some people like it, some people hate it, some are in between.
so suck it up or rage quit. fixes will come in time and no amount of 'let's all be upset together' threads is gonna make it go any faster.
Well right now nearly all the SMP servers are crippled after the update. The only ones not crippled are the ones with rigs so incredibly powerful, that they're meant for use in WAN/MAN traffic and not LAN/mini-WAN traffic. The cpu requirements just to host 10 people on an SMP server have shot through the roof.
For example, my machine before the update peaked at 30% on 2 dedicated realtime cores during peak player hours. After the update, I can barely sustain 10 people on all 4 cores. This isn't an issue of poor quality parts, this is an issue of poorly designed instruction sets for the program. There is a thread in the SMP support category where numerous people have come out with the same problem. I've even gone searching through SMP server threads to see if anyone found a solution to their own situation, and there is no solution, most if not all SMP servers are suffering or crippled completely from this new update.
I suggest you all stop treating eachother like crap, and try finding a possible working hotfix until Notch can fix this issue. Until then, you are all seriously detracting from the important problems here.

If only you could lock your own thread, it would've been the perfect punchline.

Most of the people "loving" this update don't even play SMP. That's where the fail logic starts. Notch should just remove SSP entirely IMO, I guarantee it will get rid of 80% of the pumpers on this forum.
Yeah, honestly, I expected to go into this update ready to play for hours on end, and I played for about half an hour, got bored and left. There isn't really anything interesting to do that will sustain my interest for more than 20 minutes. Hell, I spent 15 minutes there.
Finding a pumpkin, yeah good for 2 minutes.
Biomes, pretty alright. 5 minutes.
Watching my mods disappear when I loaded the game, and all the damn bugs, 10 minutes.

Multiplayer has NEVER been official or even supported...
Minecraft is still in alpha, but is rapidly nearing beta. I've only got one more feature to add; multiplayer support.
I'm renaming the old version of the game "Minecraft Classic", and will be slowly phasing it out.
I won't remove it, though. Just hide it.
The main branch of the game is currently called "Minecraft Alpha", and is under heavy development. It can be a bit unstable at times, so don't get too attached to your save files yet.

the update is awesome, I love finding out the whole new experiences and possibilities for new structures. The bloody cobbles will be a perfect color for my dragon. There is a lot of bugs, most annoying is the death bug, but oh well.. it is alpha and I know Notch going to fix it. Sorry for people who plays SMP though.. can feel the lag pain. :sad.gif:
wow this **** is like politics lol
im a big multiplayer fan i was let down not to see health and carts and even getting to go to hell in multiplayer but i understand that it is still in alpha. We are lucky to even have the game available to us at this time. Alot of companies don't let players take part in the still on going development of the game. Which is what alpha really is. People complaining that he is adding content rather then fixing bugs its because thats exactly what alpha is for developing content. Beta is for all the bugs to the game.
My personal opinion is if Notch would have know minecraft would been so poplar as it is today he might not have even let alpha be played because the reason most big companies dont do this is because players want to rush development.
i was listening to a podcast i dont remember the exact number but at one point minecraft sold better then even starcraft 2. Thats a massive push of players demanding for a final product when the product itself doesnt even have all its content in place.
I understand you are upset that muliplayer isnt working right. I personally would never play the single player i like to react with others in games. But you have to remember its just alpha not even beta yet.
im not hating on anyone i read all the different post on this topic and can understand where everyone is coming from.

Exactly, I can't play Minecraft for more than 20 minutes either. In the past month I must have played the game for 2 hours, and it was more frustrating than fun. At this point its not even worth the $13, I coulda picked up Fallout 1-2 and Planescape Torment, all for $10, now thats a deal!

By that logic if he removed SMP it would get rid of 80% of the BAAAAAAWWWWers.
Funny how the update list didn't have "*Fix all bugs in SMP". Maybe you missed the memo that SMP working correctly puts the game in beta right? That Notch has been saying his priority after this update is SMP right?
I don't even know why people are playing SMP because at the moment it completely fails at being Survival.

I agree, but at least I went into this knowing I was paying to use a game that is currently in alpha. I am satisfied that I'll be getting half off the price of what those who purchase the game whenever Notch decides to formally release it.
I sure am glad there are other games in existence.

Freedom of speech applies only to the government dumbass. There is no requirement for people to host your speech on their private property.
Also people calling you a dumbass for your free speech is also free speech.
