Biomes are okay but the new grass and tree color bugs me for some reason.
I know, I know, it's driving me crazy. I can't even look at the landscape anymore, it just looks so artificial and flat, where as before it was lush and had depth. I'm afraid that this is going to get overlooked, and the new grass and foliage look will become permanent, because people are more concerned with the overt gameplay bugs at the moment and they might get used to this horrible looking grass in the mean time.

In the beginning, Notch created the Nether and the Earth, and in it he made a man of sand and called him Steve. Notch made Steve strong so that he may punch wood, and lo, Steve was to have dominion over all square things.
Small emergency Sunday update; You drop your stuff when dying now.
That bug is finito.
All in all I gave it an 8, I like the color change and biomes actually seem the right size to me.
Hell is fun...but the portals...I don't like the random spawn when you come back. Luckily it actually gave me a reason to use my tower I built.
Haven't tried fishing, and the other bugs are a little, bad.
Especially the mob rate down in the caves. Came back from hell, had it on easy, dropped down into my caves to get a couple buckets of lava....BAM 5 CREEPERS. Franctically turned it back to peaceful.
It was pretty good, but not the best.

Become so tired, so much more aware;
I'm becoming this, all I want to do;
Is be more like me, and be less like you.
Everything has been implemented wonderfully, just not polished. It's just the bugs, oh the bugs. Still, they will get fixed so I give it an 8.
Nope, He is telling us now smp damage and minecarts are for the beta. Which he said the update would fix.
No he didn't.
He said less bugs in SMP, not "Yeah I'll fix health and minecarts".

8. He added 5 new blocks 3 of which are in hell. I have to congratulate him. He went through some tough coding and obviously wasn't easy. The amount of time to the quality of work could of been a smidge better, but im certainly not going to complain about it. Theres some bugs, but its ALPHA. Hell im more disappointed about not getting the new sounds and only 20 minutes of music, which are quiet as hell. I no C418 said he did it on purpose but i think its kind of stupid, i mean there is a volume bar for a reason... But Biomes are a definite goodie, plus the different color grass blocks are awesome :biggrin.gif:. I was on top of a mountain and looking down and seeing the different colors, looked amazing. There was a good amount of dark green, turning into a redish orange. Looked absolutely gorgeous.
TL;DR its good, worth the time.
Forgot to mention, I can careless about SMP

Cool story bro. Please make a thread somebody cares about next time.
I say 7 only cause mobs always spawn in my areas lit by torches 3 spaces apart. Other than that I love the ideas that will be implemented and cant wait for SMP in hell.

Yeah. Notch will hopefully fix this bug soon, among others.
Lose all inventory on death - how do you not detect and fix this before release?
Armor doesn't work - at least I won't waste resources crafting it.
Explore a scary new realm
Hell is boring. Yay it's all red and hellish, but I can't do anything here. Building with any substance other than obsidian is an exercise in futility. Zombie pigmen look neat but can't be interacted with, and heaven forbid you touch one for you'll be rushed by 10 others.
Using hell for "fast travel" seems needlessly frustrating. Since portal placement in hell is unlikely to emerge where you want on the surface, you must build a surface portal at each end then try to find it in hell, if doing so is even possible due to massive lava lakes in the way.
Fight scary new monsters
Ghasts are easy if you're willing to drain your arrow stocks for little to no reward. If you don't have a bow you may as well just go hide since they never land and batting their fireballs back doesn't work yet.
Zombie Pigmen travel in huge swarming packs and rush the player which due to the game mechanics is instant death. There is difficult+fun and then there is difficult+frustrating. Zombie Pigmen are the latter. Oh they also spawn camp your portal.
Experience scarier new depths
Ok, the depths themselves are not new, they're the same depths.
Besides that, failed to implement.
Be scared of the dark
Failed to implement.
Catch scary fish
Alright, a source of food which requires string and gives worse food than punching pigs. As a bonus though we can use the fishing rod to drag things around, this is the diamond in a lot of rough for this update.
Scare other players online
Damage still doesn't work, items still get duplicated at random, duplicating exploits still work and conversely item loss in chests is still possible. Stair blocks still require 10+ tries to destroy and orient themselves strangely. But, on the upside, doors behave properly.
Carve scary jack-o-lanterns
There is no "carving", wow look pumpkins grow at random in forests, pre-carved and I can stick either my head or a torch in them. A pumpkin garden would have been a neat feature. Pumpkin pie as an awesome food (and use for eggs) would have been an awesome feature. The current implementation is not.
Keep track of the scary time
Yay a watch.
And more!
Biomes, probably the best feature, oh wait there's no point in exploring far from home. Also the grass looks funny.
More sounds, well the constant screaming in hell is kind of scary, but then it gets annoying.
More music, failed to implement.
Overall there is basically nothing new to do, for an update which took a month and failed to fix multiplayer bugs while introducing new ones.
A little addition which made my rating drop quite a bit:
The bit about monsters being able to spawn in less lit conditions while deeper down is, to say it nicely, BS. Why? Because right now, monsters spawn is almost perfectly well lit areas, and I can't be bothered to make 1000 torches to light every single bit of my mine, not to mention it looks horrible. I may be able to bear this if it would actually make torches less effective while being deeper down in the dark, instead of changing the valuable in which mobs can spawn deep down.
That's currently a bug. They shouldn't be spawning on torches like that or anything.
I rated it 8.
Sure, some may say that the new features, most notably biomes, are crappy, but I believe that they are a seed which will grow into something far greater. The biomes will soon be unique, large and filled with special fauna and flora. I am truly excited for the next update Notch sends our way. People need to think not of the negative features of Minecraft, but think about what Minecraft will be in the future.
That is all.

By balance, do you mean make it totally worthless?
Agreed smp is still MC on painkillers, wheres the damage?

Those are the main bugs, so of course everything thinks that's what he's talking about. =P
You heard that, green and red.
rated 1 for the update...expected fixes, not more broken multiplayer bs added.
Read his blog again.
