Well, like I already posted in the "Facts" thread I'm a bit dissapointed too. I did hope for a PvP CTF event later today and it won't happen, sad for me, but..
Notch is not your *****, like mr. Gaiman said about someone else.
We all paid for this game while being aware of the state it is in (alpha version), being aware of how many people are working on it (at that time, only Notch) and being aware of the fact that he was really busy getting hes studio up and running for the past few weeks. Now, with all that in mind, speaking from a perspective of someone who really wanted HP/DMG working in SMP TODAY I say: If you can't get over this, shut the hell up and go drink a beer or two. Crying on forums and acting like a rude, immature troll won't help you, me or Notch with anything. In fact, it is only a DELAY, and I'm almost sure not a huge one. Chill.

You can say "deal with it" all you want but it is still ridiculous not to fix HP when you're implementing something like Hell, which has the entire purpose of being a challenge.
I'm pretty disappointed though not totally surprised by it: the code to handle and sync damage (as well as other things) in SMP is very likely quite different from how it works in single-player (though ideally it should be abstracted so damage is agnostic to where the environment is served, but whatev).
Why I was hopeful for it is that I think SMP really makes the game. Sure, single-player is fun, but if you build a huge castle all fortified with traps and moats and giant mines... you're basically the King of Nothing. You can't (practically) share all you've built with friends, the most you can do is share your World folder, or upload pics/videos, which for most things (64bit ALUs and scale-model Enterprises aside) just isn't the same as sharing it at the same time with others.
Where did he say that torches won't go out anymore?
Where did he say ghasts are no longer in?
Where did he say health would be fixed in MP?
How old are you?
Who told you that Ghasts are more than one mob type?
Who told you that less bugs mean no bugs fixed? (That we know of)
Actually, he did mention he had already fixed some earlier on, just after he announced the update.

Unless I'm completely mistaken, Notch said AGES AGO that SMP HP won't be in this update so this shouldn't be news. That is, unless I'm completely mistaken.
He only said they MAY NOT make into the update. We're just getting a solid confirmation now.
I think most of people who are upset or complain try to compare a job of developer/programmer with theirs. Unlike most other jobs in this world where you can get a feel for how long a project will take, making a game just doesn't work that way. Game developers give themselves a deadline all time, but have no clue if what they want to put into it will be done in that time or not, it's just like a, i will release what i have at this time type of thing and try to spare some time for bug testing, etc.
You know how many times something that you think would just take 1 day to figure out ends up taking multiple days or a week? or even other way around where you think implementing something will be very complicated then you suddenly come up with an idea that does same thing in half time?
Yes it's disappointing when you are waiting for certain updates only to have some stuff cut out. but I'm also in no way at all mad or upset with Notch. And i wouldn't come on these forums to complain about it, just post about what's been done, what's been found, and ponder when new stuff will be put in.
Do you that come on these forums complaining think that by doing so you'll make Notch be less lazy and suddenly speed up his work to put all updates promised immediately? I'm sorry but i believe Notch is doing an amazing job, and now trying to run a company as well, no way in hell is he being lazy at this point.
You set deadlines and expectations in programming/game development, but rarely does all features you thinking of at the time get done by that deadline, it's impossible to know for sure.
At what point did he even say that HP was going to be implemented in this update? Ive been under the impression since the announcement that it wasn't going to be implemented.
Be happy with what you got and can everyone shut up about HP which as far as im aware was never even promised.
The crapstorm about to commence in the next few days is exactly why he didn't say anything about it. If he'd mentioned putting in serverside health and then didn't deliver, the rabidfans would all fly to Sweden and hang him. As it is there's going to be a lot of sad coming from SMP till he CAN get it up and running. It's his top thing once he gets this pumpkin out, but he wanted to do some coding just to do it; probably got sick of the 5000 business deals he was doing.
I think my personal advice to Notch is to move to a full stealth-update method; finish things and THEN release them. As it is, all he does is take flak for trying to speak honestly to the playerbase. If he hits any snags at all for whatever reason, people descend on him like the wrath of god, like he's holding back food during a famine.

Every time I come to these forums, I think more and more that I'm the only person who plays Minecraft normally.
Every time I come to these forums, I think more and more that there is no such thing as playing Minecraft normally.
He'll still work on it DURING Halloween and the following week, people. We just won't get it RIGHT NOW.
Said he's taking 3 days off when he sends out the update.
That's your interpretation of it.
I think he meant when he's DONE with the update. He's obviously not done, and if he really just forgets about what he promised to deliver and took some days off, then even I will be disappointed at him.

Rally really really stupid to implement singleplayer features while the multiplayer mode is not even close to playable. Notch has A LOT to learn about game development.
*facepalm*
People like you make me sorry for mankind.
not at all, most people BUY the game for SMP, i did, most people who buy this game DO come from MP background, such as vavle games, and mods such as tf2,css ect. i also think Mp inst even CLOSE to done, whats a MP without damage. and it a big let down because most if not all MP players were expecting damage. Although i am disappointed i will always love MC
First reading this, I was a little annoyed he didn't include it because I thought he HAD said health would be finished. So I went to /boo again, and found out he never promised that.
So now I'm fine with it. I think Notch just needs to calm down a weee bit with what he announces, people get too excited for their own good. I hope we get SOME SMP bug fixes, like fixing the tool glitch or minecarts or SOMETHING, but in the end it won't matter to me if he doesn't. It will happen eventually, I'll just stick to single player for the more complete version.

Biomes have a ? because they don't have any gameplay impact yet and they are too small too...
Biomes: What an awful excuse, do we not have SMP because it's not complete yet? Biomes are in, it's that simple.
Fight scary new monsters: There is indeed only 1 new monster that's really combat capable, so in that I am somewhat disappointed. He has technically included 2 however, so strictly speaking he has not gone back on his word.
Experience scarier depths-catch scary fish: Should all be question marks, he hasn't specifically mentioned any of these topics in a while.
Scare other players online: Agreed, no bugfixes have been confirmed yet
Carve scary jack-o-lanterns: Should be a question mark, he hasn't talked about them since he announced /boo
Keep track of scary time: Agreed.
And more: Just a check, the previews have shown the better sound system (though I don't necessarily like it)
I am slightly disappointed, but I hope that after this update people will hush up about "omg no Secret Friday content additions? U SUK NOCH" for long enough that he can finish the last stretch on SMP health.

Yes, I mean, consider how long people were bitching about Biomes. They're here now! Yet people have found other things to complain about. They are both very similar situations; Notch implied he would have them done, people thought they were promised, people felt left down, but in the end Notch delivered.
Am I entitled to SMP that functions? No. I paid my 10 euros for the game as it stands with the understanding that I would be getting the rest of the game later.
However, the only thing I WANTED from the update besides hell isn't coming. That's DISAPPOINTING. As a PAYING CUSTOMER I do have a right to voice my disappointment. Right now the SMP game is just Classic with the need to dig the rocks out before you place them. Without other players to share the experience with, SP minecraft is hollow and lonely, but without an actual survival challenge, MP is just creative mode.

While we wait we have plenty of cool things to play with in SP.

Yes, work on the MULTIPLAYER before the SINGLEPLAYER! How perfectly logical!
PS: Minecraft is meant to be a survival game, going either way, unlike TF2 or Counter-strike, which are meant to be only multiplayer.
