I'm not really sure why people are so eager to get SMP up and running. Wouldn't it make sense to get the Single Player experience fully operational before attempting to expand it out into multiple people?
I mean, isn't one of the major problems in gaming today that developers focus way too much on multiplayer and just tack on a singleplayer campaign to attempt to justify a price tag?

I agree with you myself, but lots of hardcore SMPers are only in it for the multi. Many of them are coming from a background of the multiplayer game communities in the first place, like TF2 and WoW, for example. They don't care at all about SP as a mode, which is silly since the design concept is that the two modes will ultimately be distinguishable solely by the number of players. I understand what they want, I want serverside health too, but some SMP-only folks don't get the process, methinks. That and has been mentioned, this is an alpha stage, so to expect everything to work is really just being blind to the situation. To be fair, this blindness over things in the game being weird, broken, or missing extends well into the SP playerbase as well. Many folks just don't get the concept of ongoing development and somehow think they have a full game instead of a game still being made.

Every time I come to these forums, I think more and more that I'm the only person who plays Minecraft normally.
Every time I come to these forums, I think more and more that there is no such thing as playing Minecraft normally.
If you'r not mature enough to handle alpha testing then come back when it's finished.
If you're not mature enough to understand people have expectations and are entitled to be disappointed and to voice that disappointment, then don't read forums. What stage the game is in is irrelevant.

He'll still work on it DURING Halloween and the following week, people. We just won't get it RIGHT NOW.
Said he's taking 3 days off when he sends out the update.
NO WAY! WHAT A *****!
/sarcasm
Well given that my comment was in response to someone stating that notch was going to work during Halloween and the following week I hardly see why it is necessary to be sarcastic as if I was complaining about that fact.

That's your interpretation of it.
I think he meant when he's DONE with the update. He's obviously not done, and if he really just forgets about what he promised to deliver and took some days off, then even I will be disappointed at him.

Rally really really stupid to implement singleplayer features while the multiplayer mode is not even close to playable. Notch has A LOT to learn about game development.

Not going to click a random link on the forums, but given that "entitlement issues" are in the url I assume it's a reference to "entitlement issues".
Ignore the word entitlement and replace it with "allowed" and the statement stands. People can both be aware the game is in alpha and still be disappointed for not seeing an update they were looking forward to. To act condescendingly toward such human expression is just silly. Again, what stage the game is in is irrelevant.

Notch agrees he owes me a completed game. We are voicing which parts of the game are the most important to us, the parts promised to us, and the parts we are, yes, entitled to. Get over it. My bad if I play Minecraft for the multiplayer with my real life friends, all of which I convinced to buy the full (alpha) game.

Did he tell you exactly what "completed game" means?

At least we'll have biomes and hell to play with in SP until MP gets sorted!

Perfection!
But honestly, it's not going to be perfect... we just gotta deal.

"Q: I paid for a pre-purchase, that means you owe me the finished game.
A: Yes, I agree. It’s coming, no matter what happens. I promise."
