Just read the twitter. Can't wait. I wonder if they're completely different blocks or if he just used some tricky work-around. I hope it's a tricky work-around so he doesn't run out of room for new blocks any faster.
Why would he run out of room for new blocks? He could just code the game to expect a bigger or second texture image and code the blocks accordingly.
He's said before that he's limited to 256. He could probably code the game to expect more easily, but I'm guessing this could double memory requirements or something similar, because he never mentioned that as a possibility.
Now 256 is nothing to sneeze at. I'm sure we aren't remotely close to that limit, but some day, **** could go down.
One thing that worries me a little is that the desert (presumably a hot one) seems too close to the taiga.
I wasn't expecting to see three biomes within eyeshot. I thought they'd be bigger than that.
Yeah, seems way too close together!
This isn't a very big problem though because, even though they may be found fairly close together, they will still be fairly relational to one another as has been indicated here: http://twitpic.com/314r2q.
So seeing an ice desert or tundra in the distance next to Taiga still makes logical sense.

I do worry about the 256 limit, though. For the alpha, it works fine, but if this is gonna be a serious game then it could be too limiting.

256 lol that mean he's using old programming system, with all the money he make he could get something better if the server get too old :wink.gif:

I hope the final version of forests look more...foresty.
conveniently, once he has the code in for biomes, modifying them should be comparatively easy.
I think he will continue to diversify biomes over time, but this update will be more about getting the code for the biomes in, and less about how the biomes themselves look.

I can clearly see snow on the mountain in the distance.
It's sand, not snow.
It doesn't really matter what you think it is, lol. Notch CONFIRMED that it was a desert type. :tongue.gif:
Of course it is, and deserts can have snow.

Fear the night...
Exactly :happy.gif:
He said F1 hides the GUI (Hold it down to prevent accidents)
Yep, currently by holding down F1, he can turn his HUD off.

Well he's not done, and there is some dithering there anyways. Just trust in the Notch, bro.
Yeah, he gave more information. He's smoothing it out.
Also, I trust him on this.

It isn't that simple.

No idea. I hope they end up being darker and more forest-like than what we currently have in Alpha.
yeah, you're probably right.
