Mine is kinda humble, no rivers of lava or anything like that:
Basically I stuck it on an island and built a bridge to it, the corner part of which is a tower rising from the sea with a crafting/storage room and then a shaft that goes down into my mine. Inside I've got the portal, four fires burning, and a skylight, with a big window in the back that offers a nice view of the setting sun.
I'm thinking about putting a spire with flames spiraling up it on top instead of the glass ceiling, so that it looks a bit more sinister and doubles as a lighthouse of sorts.
I don't have a pic on hand, but mine is at the end of a 2x3x8 hallway underneath my base. The walls and ceiling are made of wool, and the floor is smooth stone. Torches are placed every other block on the top section of the hallway, in opposite pairs. The hall looks very sterile, like some sort of Nether testing lab. I wish I could make it like 10x longer, but I had to fit it inside my floating island.
Concept stargate command style room with redstone draft.
cool gate room, but stargate not big enough :smile.gif:
should be like this:
Another portal in my base:
< water to break fall
<sign in middle to hold water up
< hacked in portal
the idea being that you jump in a fall down the really deep dark hole then the water stops your fall and you drop into the portal. it does work, but you do need another gate to exit nether as this is a one way portal.
Thought of something today I am going to start on this weekend.
Have an 8 clock powering redstone torches so pulses of light emanate from your portal. Maybe add in some notnots for delays, or some crazy one clocks, I don't know. May need the RS torch light mod though. Also, you could add a memory bank connected to some pressure plates, so whenever you enter certain area of your room/building, the whole place lights the **** up.
My portal sits at the end of an airstrip I built some months ago, on top of my mountain home. Once portals were introduced, it seemed like the best place to stick it :smile.gif:. The other side is on the edge of a cliff :biggrin.gif:.
