Two-headed ghasts called !Gasps!

they should drop ghast balls which you can mix with slime balls and it creates a light green ball which can be used to be dropped on the floor or take up inventory space. or for the really daring be dropped into lava where is gets destroyed.

Tar to make fire arrows. Instead of flint, it'd be tar in recipes. It would drop in normal-large quantities (10-45) and tar could naturally be found in swamp biomes.

Pet ghasts that aid you in your exploration of hell, if you dont dismiss them and you go into normal world, it xplodes.

what if the tentacles could be used as sticks for even higher tier pickaxes? Wood+tentacle=pickaxe better than diamond

Herobrine. Ghasts should drop Herobrine. from their ashes, he runs full pelt at you, punishing you for killing minecrafts mightiest beast.

I vote there be few things they can drop. The necronomicon pages thing is an awesome idea. The effects of these dark books should be anything from temporary invincibility ( and then being reduced to 1 heart when it ends) to a small army of mobs you can control for a period of time that eventually turn on you. The pages should be relatively rare (10%?, with 3 or 4 need for a full book), with the most common drop (65%) being an item modifier that makes items inflict fire but reduce the sword or whatever to 1/5 damage. It would only be applied to arrows 5 or 10 per fire modifier. The second most common drop (maybe like 20%) would be the beast's tentacles which could possibly be used as a weapon with devious effects when crafted into a whip. The rarest item of them all would be the ghost block, used to make tools (not weapons) superior to diamond.

Perhaps Notch should make portals a "one-way ticket to hell" and in order to get out, you need to kill ghasts for for the "slime" (?) in order to open the portal up again. You could possibly farm this "slime" and be able to reuse the portal as long as you have them. All the portals that are first generated should have the slime (or what ever the hell - pun not intended - that purple stuff is) and when you us the portal,it closes behind you.
