I don't really care for the change. However, when you want to call it Underworld or something like that, it gives it too much of a feeling that its underground the earth or something. It looks that way, but its really just another dimension. Or perhaps its underground in another dimension, oh well we can't know that yet.
I probably won't get support on this, especially since I dissed the Underworld name, but I think The Infernal Plane could possibly work.

That might work.
Ultimately, though (as someone above me said) it probably will keep being called Hell by everyone :tongue.gif:, so it doesn't really matter.
And, of course, as with any topic at all remotely related to Christianity, this is turning into a "Christians are so stupid!" fest.
Totally called it.
well, no offense intended, but if someone tells me they are christian, immediately everything they will ever say again for the rest of their christianity is going to be taken wit a grain of salt because they clearly are not interested in having consistently logical premises for their decisions. its a very logical assessment of christianity, although i am quite fond of many christian people and have nothing against their faith, aside from the fact that it makes me take them less seriously, as if they were somehow logically defective. I might still really like them as a person, though.
that being said, yea, it was probably jsut a jab, but to quite a few of us, it was a meaningful jab.
I like hell for simplicities sake, but I hate how now there's a million suggestions to pointlessly add heaven and make you spawn in hell after death and crap like that. It's not literally hell, we just call it that.

It's very ignorant of you to assume that we don't have consistently logical premises for our decisions. There certainly are some "Bible thumpers" out there, but the majority of Christians I know and associate with are not like that.

the entire notion of being able to believe in the metaphysical means that, by definition, you are believing in something that cant be tested with physical methods (thats what metaphysical means, go look it up). that means you jump to conclusions based on 'feelings'. which means you are illogical.
from point A to point B, thats how it works.
the only reason christians are logical is because there is cognitive dissonance in modern society, they believe in two contradictory systems, being science and faith. that disconnect also serves to lower my faith in someone logical capacity, as they clearly dont even have the logical ability, or willpower, to ratify these systems with one another.
It's a matter of intellectual character.
I'm not gonna take a conspiracy theorist, and ask their opinions about ANYTHING.
same with christians.
their opinions are essentially useless to me wen it comes to logic (in any other topic, though, theyre just as useful to me).
this is not a form of bigotry, but is literally a matter of logicking from one point to another.
yes, christians are not always wrong, this is true, and in fact many are often very clever. but i ccant take em asseriously. i mean, they believe in magical god people things. wtf. thats pretty much borderlining on believing in the tooth fairy as far as im concerned. and tell me... would you consider the logic of someone who beleives in the tooth fairy? because i wouldnt. id assume they were crazy.
I wouldn't mind if the name was changed. Calling it, or any "dangerous" area in any game or movie or what-have-you "Hell" is just being lazy and unoriginal. You'd think in a game like MC, there'd be more creative ways to describe that place instead.
I mean, for crying out loud, the new environments are called "biomes". The best enemy is the creeper, not the bland zombie that's overdone. You have to punch trees to get wood. Etc, etc. I'm all for "Hell" being renamed, not to avoid offense, but to be creative, original, possibly even unique.
Not to mention the fact that if it's given a different name, Notch can do so much more with it. He's not restricted to certain connotations. If he wanted pretty flowers and singing pixies, he could have it, because it wouldn't be "Hell", it'd be... whatever else he'd name it.
I'm all for giving it a different name. Don't be lazy and unoriginal. You already did that with the zombie addition.
("Longer than you think, Dad! Longer than you think!")
Well, it's not teleportation. But the same book has a better name: "Mrs. Notch's Shortcut"
Haha, oh yeah. There's that too.
I just think the Jaunt (or "Jaunt Zone" or something for MC) is much more terrifying. It would also be deliciously ironic. But I say that mostly because I love the word.

1) You're jumping to conclusions. Christians believe in a metaphysical being because of historically verifiable evidence, not just because of feelings.
2) Many things that we all believe cannot be proven by the scientific method. For instance, do you believe that Abraham Lincoln existed? Why? You can't prove it scientifically, you can only surmise it based on historical evidence. That's faith. Or, do you believe your parents love you? How do you know? You can't prove that scientifically.
3) Science and faith are inherently connected, not disconnected, or the simple reason that believing that science can prove ANYTHING requires faith in the scientific method. How do you know the universe actually functions in predictable ways? Perhaps all the seeming logic that we've observed is just luck. How do you know anything exists period? You are putting faith in your own very fallible senses, which is arguably just as illogical as what you accuse Christians of doing.
4) We both know that we aren't going to convince the other of anything. The basic point still stands that what 'i <3 mc' said was stupid, juvenile, and uncalled for. Whether it had "meaning" to anyone else is irrelevant. I could say something like "all blacks are stupid monkeys that don't deserve anything more than slavery," and someone on here might agree with me, but that doesn't change the fact that it's offensive and uncalled for. So let's drop this subject, because neither of us are going to get anywhere, and it's detracting from the original thread.
I never liked the name "hell" for this part of the game. It carries too many connotations and brings with it too much "baggage". Also, it even has implications of religious significance. This is where all the "if we have hell, why not heaven" and "when you die you should go to hell" posts are spawned by. It allows too many preconceptions to impinge on the game because everone already has a concept of hell and how it "should" be. This should be something unique to MC IMO.
Also, going to hell in a video game? Well that's original. That has never been done before. Wake me up when it's over.
"Hell" is ill-advised, predictable and boring as a name IMO.
My thoughts exactly. When I heard about 'Hell world" I inwardly groaned. Images of Doom sprang to mind.

I love it! It just rolls off your tongue!

That might work.

And it's very descriptive!

Well, considering you aren't SUPPOSED to be able to easily build in hoodly doodly dingle flops, I wouldn't count on it.

Scariest short story every written.
That ****ing story still frightens me to this day.
+1 for joo
