Argument? Are you retarded? How do you argue arbitrary speculation? What a stupid thing to say.
No, I'm not retarded. I'm trying to defend someone who just decided to voice his opinion on the upcoming hallowe'en update.
It wasn't an opinion - it was deliberate antagonizing. Your modesty to help "defend" them is just self-defeating.

It's trolling because of the intent of the creation of the thread. Let's just flowchart it;
+ New update coming
+ I think it might fail
- A few reasons why I might think that
Now, what exactly does this do for anyone? Why bother posting this? It's a waste of time.

Are you serious? 90% of threads on this forum are speculation. These are the forums of an INDEVELOPMENT game. And considering there are threads devoted specifically to a countdown to the hallowe'en update, I can see the purpose of this thread. The OP is suggesting people don't get too excited about this update, considering alot of deadlines haven't been met in the past, all of this hype could be dangerous in the event something turns up, or Notch simply is in "over his head". Regardless, this thread is completely harmless, and it was hardly necessary to call me 'retarded' for disagreeing with you. Also, don't just decide this thread is useless, someone might be able to extract something from it. You'd be suprised
Ok, so you're saying it is ok to say, "Let's not get excited guys.. it might fail."
If you want to jump on the emo bandwagon of wrist cutting losers who say things like, "It doesn't matter, we're all dead in the end anyway" then go ahead and be cynical. Sorry, I'm not pessimistic - I like to be excited and happy and find it offensive and a waste of time to say otherwise.
Furthermore, yes, a lot of this forum is speculation but not a lot of it is full of people being so damn cynical over updates. "Ohh I better not get excited.. I might just get disappointed again.." If you really condone this thinking, then just get to the end of it and end yourself. Goddam.
What exactly can you extrapolate from this post aside from "Don't get too excited, but I could do a better job than Notch"? Come on. Notch knows what he is doing and he has also admitted when things will falter. Yes, he has admitted to being flooded with work before and that is a reason to BE CONFIDENT in him, not the other way around! He'll tell you. Wow.
Edit: At your last post - Noones perfect, even Notch could admit that. You just seem to be violently lashing out anyone who says otherwise. Get over yourself, you don't represent the thoughts and opinions of the community. You'd swear you owned the place.
Ugh, yes, he will admit that. The fact that he hasn't said anything so far is reason to be confident and optimistic, not pessimistic. You're right, I don't own the thoughts and opinions of others or own the place, I never claimed to. All I claim is that this thread is antagonizing and it's clear that the OP is being a douche.
Honestly? I don't see this making any headway, and I still don't see how the OP is being a douche :/ Guess we'll have to agree to disagree.
It never had headway to begin with. Hence why I've been saying to lock it. I personally don't see how he is not a douche and how it is ok to say things like "Notch is most likely going to fail unless he does what I suggest " which is just arrogant and pretentious and no one could extrapolate anything further without carrying the same attributes.
Why half of the topics in the forum that doubt in notch's plan turn to be arguments?
I mean OP is worried that notch won't catch on his schedule (he's getting rather too busy), and he has lots to do, he didn't get biomes to work last time so shouldn't he reconsider them? Shouldn't he be done from the simple things such as watches and fish? I know he might be done and didn't reveal them, but there's also a chance that he is not done from them, and he should work.
I'm pretty sure that the last sentence "He should work" would **** a lot of people because they think notch should work at the pace he wants , it's not for his benefit, the game already is going to sell 500 thousand copies in it's alpha stage, that's surely getting him into Guinness world records for the highest sold out alpha game.

I can understand concern about Notch and his development. What I don't understand is giving pretentious "advice" that Notch ought to follow.
You're right though - Notch has done a bang up job and has kept a rather decent pace for a game being in alpha stages. He has been working on a number of things which is probably why he feels comfortable putting them in his Halloween update. I'm sure that if something doesn't work out, he'll say so and remove it before update, as before. It's smarter to keep it to the side and make sure it's perfect than just impetuously release something because people are too damn impatient. Not too mention that several things are in the game just to test out how they function.
Furthermore, why is it that no one is considering that he is delaying the update to ensure that his servers are prepared for the onslaught of people updating their games? It is likely that he has a lot of it done and is trying to save it for that one day because his biggest issue so far has simply been popularity and server control. By grouping up a months of updates into one day, it gives him ample time to develop his company/servers and release them all at once rather than struggling as he goes along to satisfy the pessimistic and impatient troglodytes.
Yeah. Difficulty of mathematics is involved if you're doing things like this, but otherwise programming is not hard. It's much like a second language, once you get the hang of it it becomes second nature and is very easy to work with.
I sincerely doubt that Notch is working with incredibly hard mathematical formulas in a small Java based game that's in Alpha development.
It's easy to crunch code in a game like this, less so in say, AI (which doesn't exist right now anyways, and we don't even know if it's actually possible, or if the best we can do is create VI)
In a large software company, you can see tons and tons and tons of programmers.
Not so much in a gaming company. They usually have a small dedicated team because programming is a very little portion of the overall project that's easily handled by a few capable individuals.
Point being here, it's a Java game and it's not going to take Notch that long to actually implement all these features, especially since he's adding code to pre-existing functions (Biomes).
The OP doesn't really have anything to complain about because unless Notch doesn't do any programming whatsoever until the 30th of October, we're going to see an update since it won't take him long to program the new features.

Blizzard Entertaiment. World of Warcraft project; TWO PEOPLE, just two, design, texture, and build the dungeons. However they have around 100-200+ programmers. Out of all the art teams, the only one that comes close to the size of the amount of programmers they have is the cinimatics team.
Just because he hasn't given any new information, doesn't mean he hasn't done progress. Even though, I suspect only 70% of the update will actually be in the update. (bracing for "BAH, I failed biomes")
Minecraft has been in development for quite a while, but for a indie game like this, is much more shorter than other Indies like Overgrowth and Natural Selection 2.
I pre-ordered Overgrowth a year back, and they aren't even near beta.
Overgrowth has the basic game engine fundamentals down, and most of it were graphical/performance things. Actual gameplay is only recently being set up (they tested combat using Lugaru's combat systems, but the system isn't even halfway there).
Minecraft had the gameplay set up and done with ages ago, it's just the contents that he's filling the game up with.
In this case, Minecraft is a case of "simple and clean" indie game that tries to avoid setting up for failure. Overgrowth is a "trial and error" kind of indie game where the developers test out things to see if it fits.
He's doing hell first because it is, by far, the largest. Biomes would be next, and he has been working on them for a while. The other thing like lanterns, new music and sounds are very small. It shouldn't take him that long.
He will either finish by the 31st, or he'll update soon afterwards to fix things.
Bluh bluh bluh; tl;dr, Notch already made a million dollars off of minecraft. He has your money now (all of the monies; all of them.) The game is over. Go home.
OK, so notch updated his blog, basically saying everything was going well and he now has 3 programmers, so I guess I have nothing to worry about anymore, nice job, Notch!

I keep telling all you fools to simmer down until you have real information but haters gonna hate.

Just for fun, I pulled up the credits (for Wrath) . . .
City/Dungeon artists:
Steve Allen, Jeff Chang, Steve Crow, Rutherford Gong, Jeremy Graves, Keven K. Griffith, Andrew Matthews, Michael McInery, John Staats, Rhett "Stash" Torgoley.
Other "creative" categories:
Art Director, Creative Director, Lead Animator, Lead City/Dungeon Artist, Lead Environment Artist, Lead Prop Artist, Lead Technical Artist, Lead Level Designer, Lead World Designer, Lead Exterior Level Designers, Lead Exterior Artist, lots of other "leads" with many names, ...

BTW, how many representatives does a game company need?? The longest lists are there . . .
