By "ice desert" I thought you meant something like the Gobi desert, where it snows every once in a while. But I guess you mean something closer to a glacier. Which would still be awesome, probably more so, compared to an "ice desert".
Also: I have penguins!
Okay, they're more "badly skinned puffins", but close enough. I should probably reskin that to be more accurate... oh well, later.
"I love how supporters of finite torches say they want a more challanging game and then in later threads talk about using peaceful mode when building."
You may think this is in the wrong section, but the Halloween update includes biomes and Penguins would be perfect for a snowy biome.
I think it would be best to have two snow biomes. Tundra, and ice desert. The tundra would snow occasionally and have trees, thick snow, etc.
The ice desert biome would be larger and would not snow. No trees will grow, and instead of dirt, the ground would be an ice-dirt. Water would be under the majority of the land. (Perhaps 10-30 blocks down)
Penguins would be in the ice desert biome and would be in large packs. They lay eggs like chickens and can swim.
If you still don't think penguins are a good idea, watch March Of The Penguins and then try to see if it is possible to not like the idea. :biggrin.gif:
well what do peguins do. do they giveyou a item or somthing?

You know.. if you place penguins into a glacier type biome you're looking at lions in hot, dry plains.. tigers/panthers in hot, moist forests.. and wolves in moderate forest areas.
In short, we're gonna have a lot of unfriendly wild-life in new areas. XD

I can imagine a blocko-lion.
A square mane, eyes like the chicken, blocko-feet...
I say Penguins should drop fat and occasionally eggs when you kill them. As for usefulness, keep in mind that they don't HAVE to be useful, they can just simply be there.
Besides, once we get prefixes, we can start worrying about unfriendly Giant Magma Penguins.
Penguin- it's like a chicken, but cooler. They can swim really well, drop eggs and fat, and baby penguins can be tamed as a non-despawning pet.
Polar bear- think of it of a cow-sized hostile mob. It does about the same amount of damage as a Zombie (5 hearts-> hit on Hard mode)
Whales- Maybe different kinds of whales. These things are gigantic and, if killed, drop mass amounts of blubber and whale fat. You should be able to hunt them with a craftable harpoon, that's thrown like an arrow is shot.
Seal- These would mostly be for looks, but it would be cool to see these sliding around, being eaten by whales and such.
Fish types- I'm not really sure what kinds of fish live around these areas. They would be caught like any other fish.
Ice elemental- Some kind of icey golem or something along those lines. Maybe has freeze effects, and is weak to fire.
Traditional Desert- You know, the sandy place with cactuses.
Animals- Scorpion, coyote, snake, sandworm?
Scorpion- I'm not sure whether these should be chicken-sized or cow-sized. Either way, they can poison you and are best to avoid, unless you want to harvest their poison or use their tough exoskeleton for armor.
Coyote- Basically the upcoming wolf mob with a few edits. They should travel in packs.
Snake- A common sight in the desert. There should be at least two different kinds, and could possibly be poisonous.
Sandworm- I've mentioned this before, but it would be cool to have to avoid touching the sand in certain areas. You know, you accidentally fall onto it, and rrumblerumble WHAM a huge worm thing is tearing your face off.
These could be biomes-in-biomes, maybe their territory could be pit-shaped for identification. Is this possible? I have no clue.
Forest- You know, that place with all of those trees and things.
Sub-biomes: Generic Forest, Rainforest, Polar Forest
Generic Forest- Basically the little half-forests we have now, times five.
Animals: Birds, wolves, some kind of pterodactyl-dragon thing to hunt, lizards, deer.
Birds- Something Minecraft is seriously lacking at the moment. There could be songbirds, which brighten the mood a little, and only are active in the daytime. Then there are bigger birds of prey, which could possibly attack littler things and could maybe be trained.
Wolves- Since these are a confirmed addition, I'm not gonna put very much down. They should hunt in packs, be passive during day, and make the stereotypical "hooooowwlll" noise. That is all.
Small Dragon- They look sorta like Cliff Racers, but share nothing else with those cursed beasts. They fly overhead, and can be shot down. They provide dragon teeth, which are a stronger alternative to flint for arrow-making. These could also be tamed, either to harvest eggs or just to have a neat addition to your house. Notch HAS said that zoos and animal husbandry will be an addition, why not make some interesting pets?
Lizards- They're big, they're tough, and they don't give up easily. Or at least, some of them are. These would be the main danger at all times in the forest. Moving fast and having a considerable amount of health, the bigger ones pose a threat to even the strongest adventurer. Some are worth the fight, though- they drop [INSERT IDEA HERE] which can be used for [INSERT IDEAS HERE].
Deer- They don't really have much purpose, but then, why are Sheep in the game? It would be cool to hunt these as an alternative to bacon, bacon, bacon, and maybe bread every now and then.
Rainforest- It's hot and steamy, and it rains. A lot. Having within-biome weather would be so cool.
Animals: Birds, Tigers, Lemurs, snakes, maybe bugs, [NEED MORE IDEAS!!]
Birds- See above. Maybe things like toucans and non-specific colorful birds that drop colorful feathers and possibly eggs.
Tigers- They can jump like Spiders, and are very strong, but drop good fur, which is one tier higher than regular leather and lasts very long.
Lemurs- this is one of those things that would be cool because it's not a very commonly heard animal. Imagine seeing these little things jumping around in the canopy of all the little blocky trees.
Snakes- Various snakes that are somehow scripted to stay on branches and leaves most of the time.
Bugs- It would be really disturbing to be exploring the bottom layer of the rainforest and see a huge centipede creeping along nearby.
Polar Forest- You know, with pine trees and it's all snowy and stuff.
Animals: Wolves, bears, deer, [NEED MORE IDEAS!]
Wolves- I've covered this. Just scroll up a bit.
Bears- Again, pretty much a reskin of the polar bear, but with some useful aspects as well.
Deer- I've also said this. I really need some more original ideas for this biome.

I realize that 99% of these, both the biomes and the creatures, are either impossible or Notch will not implement them. But we can dream, can't we?

And here people thought that the "SSSSSS" sounds coming from my room was me >:sad.gif:
That would be awesome and suck balls at the same time.
Its Dood! not Dude! how could you get that wrong?
Linkto a totally legitimate site for a search class.
... being cute isnt evilness! haha :tongue.gif:
If Notch really does support pets in the future,
They could be an alternative fishing pole with an extra 40% of catching a fish.
The pengu-fat could be used for lanterns,
But the fat from the fish they catch would make more sense.
< My Steam Account (add me!)
< Dragon Cave! (aid)
read mah post yo.
But yeah, if you accidentally kill them, you should get at least a feather.
Maybe "penguin fat" as an alternative for "fish fat" for Lanterns.

For the penguins, it's a good idea.
In short, we're gonna have a lot of unfriendly wild-life in new areas. XD
I can imagine a blocko-lion.
A square mane, eyes like the chicken, blocko-feet...
I can skin it.

Also, here's a puffin.
Now who knows what that's from?
Even though the names of these 2 creatures do not match. Still somewhat the same thing.
Besides, once we get prefixes, we can start worrying about unfriendly Giant Magma Penguins.
only if we can tame them so we can have them eat other players pet penguins in muti >:biggrin.gif: *hates penguins*
Glacier / Tundra area- It's cold out!
