I would love to see different style blocks in different biomes. Like wood which looks somewhat fancier than regular (maybe you can even craft different things from it. Like stronger bow or something)
Maybe in certain regions, there would be "Redwood" trees; Hundreds of feet tall with special Redwood.
Maybe some of this special bark could be used in Alchemy?
I do like the idea of ores specific to various biomes, but not quite the way you laid it out. I think that the base materials we have now (coal, iron, diamond) should be available throughout the world, since they're absolutely necessary (well, maybe not diamonds, but they're very convenient). However, maybe some new ores could be added in that have more specialized uses, like redstone. Maybe redstone could be found easiest in desert environments, while rainforests or mountainous regions would spawn different new ores.
That way, you wouldn't be required to establish multiple bases or travel long distances just to survive, but only if you wanted to hunt down a certain material for special projects or convenience.
*edit*
For example, maybe in rainforests biomes you can find crystals that refract light further from it's initial source, allowing you to make more efficient use of limited light sources.

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

Sounds really cool; a rainforest biome with rivers and trees and birds and special ore would be a great addition to this game.
Exactly.
Maybe coal could be found aboveground in rainforests.
And yes, I do think that all nessecary ores should be found in all areas; Yet again, I said that more of a certain ore should spawn in certain areas. Not less of any ore.
I like this idea alot, but searching for diffrent biomes to find specific things will be a pain. especially for us who already have a decent sized save file who dont want to start over. i think that certain biomes should be plentiful with objects, (desert sand and cactus, forest wood and animals ect) but not as far as some biomes only containing items. at least make them not needed, like your alchemy wood in the forest example. alchemy is gold, not wood. please dont let minecraft become runescape with all that magic crap. if there are "rune" blocks, im quitting the internet.

You better quit now then, If you haven't heard, Redstone Dust is magic, not electricity.
See ya.
(And Alchemy isn't JUST about transmuting things to gold you know.)

You got me there. but redstone is ok, because its on a small scale. an i dont really know about alchemy... but really, is there anyone else out there that likes minecraft based on its real life feel? the rush as you have to hurry to dig that cave your first night, and find coal for torches? IMO, the game will lose most, if not all, of its originality if magic becomes any part bigger than redstone is right now. just for fun things in multiplayer.
Yes, I like that feel, but a little bit of alchemy and enchanting wouldn't ruin things for me, Minecraft is Pseudo-Fantasy... It would add an interesting new side to things.
(I believe Notch has said stuff about Enchanting as well.)
So you could always either, try not to use those things, or, go support one of those "Customization Settings" Suggestions, so you could just turn off certain blocks, or the like, and get rid of Alchemy. :tongue.gif:

he has, the extent of magic is alchemy, making items (runes of holding as an example) and enchanting.
there wont be ANY attack magic. notch has said this (refer to the things notch has said thread)
Imagine for a class you would have to create a random number generator using redstone dust!!!! Awesome. On topic, 10x diamonds in on area would be dumb because you could just get so many diamonds. Even though South Africa may have 10x the diamonds as the US, it would not be a good idea to implement the full 10x difference but rather a more moderated multiplier like 3x.

I was wondering, how did all of you get into this game?
It makes sense to find certain items or ores in certain biomes. I always found it strange whenever I saw a cactus in a snow world. Hopefully, things like cacti will only be found out in the desert.
It might also be interesting to see certain climates more or less appropriate for farming. One could import more fertile soil from another area into a frozen tundra, build a greenhouse, and use it to plant strawberries, despite the harsh environment.
(Yes, I know you cannot plant strawberries. But you know the farming will be expanded upon eventually. I forsee a full-on Harvest Moon crammed within this game eventually, minus the one-dimensional spouse seeking.
accually i have a journymens liceince in electrical and i used redstone to show 2 apprintices how currents and other switches and basic electric ,work (they found that my presentation was nerdy but they understood it) minecraft is educational cus it makes ye think.
I would totally put on the music if it was affected by what biome, or even area you were in. The transition would be amazing, from going from mountains to deserts and having fitting music, oh, just thinking about it is epic.
I like this idea. I'd like to see cacti appear in actual deserts, not on a beach in a lush paradise. I want beaches with palm trees that have coconuts used to restore health. I want to see certain plants appear in rainforests, swamps, and mountainous areas. I'd like ores to be more spread out too, but not extremely spread out. I think the frequencies for ores appearing changing throughout biomes sounds cool, and more challenging, which means more fun for me.

So, nothing that is required would be removed in certain regions.
Things that are a leisure, like Redstone & Cacti would only not-appear in certain places.
With things like Redstone, Notch can tailor where it appears to his liking, as it's fictional.
I don't want things like oil (which would likely be nessecary for lanterns) to be exclusive in one single area, but would appear more often in that area, for the player's sake.

"Normal" Area.
"Desert" Area, using Diamonds as your example:
And not;
"Desert Area"
Right?

Swamps sounds sick. Creeper + swamp =
Oh, and I can't wait until someone finds a biome inside of a biome :3
