I didn't read the whole topic, but what if the monsters that spawn in normal world (but on hellblocks) can only move within the hellblock. Touching grass and stuff would kill them?
OR
If the monsters are so tainted, they turn whatever they touch into hellblocks? But that would spread like a wildfire, so...
I kind of like this idea. but instead of killing them, i think it should just make them a lot weaker.
Normal world mobs spawn on dimly lit normal blocks, and Hell mobs spawn on dimly lit hell blocks.
So if you take some hell blocks back with you and leave them somewhere dark, INSTANT DEMONS!
Lets say that you go to hell and mine this bloody cobble, or some other hell only stone. You take it out to the regular world with you, and build on it. But lets say you forget to put a torch somewhere, and monsters can spawn. Only...instead of regular monsters, they're the ones found in the hell world. So now you've got these end of the world creatures roaming around your normal land, and you have to first stop their spawning place and then somehow stop them.
Good idea. Maybe through alchemy or some sort of blessing you can keep 'em from spawning.
Maybe various portals found throughout the world could also spawn hell monsters, and they also would need to be blocked/thwarted entry via either light or sigils/blessings.
Its nice to finally read a refreshing post to read with some constructive ideas.
Well, spawning creatures near a somewhat common stone would kinda cause chaos and it would be somewhat difficult to program to make it work really well
I do like the bloody cobblestone though, I want that
maybe you could possibly harvest a mob spawner in hell and put it anywhere, that would be cool
I like the bloody cobble idea. It would be nice to have creatures from hell around your base. But people could also make giant "hell farms" by enclosing bloody cobble in a drowning trap. So hell mobs would have to be able to break through stuff.
maybe the bloody cobble could be used as a building material that has very good and special proporties and it makes you whant to gather as much as you can, but the more you have the more the stone hould infect the landscape and turn mobs evil

I used to be an arrow like you, but then i took a knee to the head.
Or maybe make it that the hell blocks can only potentially affect other blocks within a small radius, ie if you place a hell block in the normal world all blocks within a small area around it are infected, but blocks beyond this would only be affected if you place another hell block rather than the infection simply spreading infinitely.
Though the ideas about having alchemy to cleanse the blocks would still be good, and maybe make it that when the 'infected' blocks are hit by direct sunlight or considerable amounts of artificial light from lava or torches they revert to their original state, however as soon as it becomes dark they become infected again. That way you could prevent the spread of hell blocks if you ensure there is enough light, and it might add in some interesting possibilities.
I would like to add that I think that it would be great if farm animals would attack these hellish beasts. Due to them going against the "natural order" and all. Would be hilarious to see some demon spawn and then get dog-piled by a herd of cow and a flock of chickens.

Spawning creatures near a somewhat common stone is already in the game... That's what Mob Spawners are. A block that spawns monsters. The same concept could be applied when you take a block out of hell and into the real world. It just turns into a Mob Spawner with the textures of that particular hell block.
Also, I suggested in another thread (and someone else has also suggested something similar here) that hell blocks should kill off the vegetation surrounding it in some radius away. So grass would slowly die out to dirt and trees would so the same.
I like the idea of Hell Monsters slowly turning surrounding blocks into Hell versions. It just shouldn't be too fast though... don't want to drop off 1 hell block and have death be upon ye before the break o' dawn... as cool as that would be, it would ruin your save quickly should you not place a light or not think and place a torch (That would then go out in like 3 days or however long they last)...

Laser Bats, like tiny nocturnal spaceship piranhas.
Why do you people want to make this game more complicated. Notch said he wanted it to be an easily accessible game not a some complicated game with magic and rituals and **** like that.
I think it is a BAD idea. The original posters idea wasn't bad but the other crap thrown around is just stupid.

Wow, thanks for all the replies everyone! I was really tired when I made that post and thought it was worded badly and expected it to go nowhere, lol. I'm glad to see it sparked off all kinds of discussion :biggrin.gif:. As for the name, the last thread I had read kept calling it "Bloody Cobble" so I figured that was the name we were sticking with. Whatever type of Hellblock it is, is what I meant. So it can be the dirt or something else as well.
I LOVE that idea of having to purify the stones! I never thought of that, it would definitely add an interesting element to mining in hell! It'd also make getting the blocks from that dimension something to work hard for, instead of just going in, getting a few chunks, and leaving before you die. That'd make them alot more rare when used for building purposes! This is some great discussion, thanks for all the positive replies!

I don't care what anybody else says. The idea of seeing a chicken going ballistic on the 4 metre (wide? tall?) hell mob is too good to pass up
But...there is a question to be asked.
Would it still have the derp face?
Deeeerrrrppp.
But yes, good idea.

they do, i said that. You read it too fast.
i'm saying that if the post here ends up being true, that they would spawn rarely, and near the blocks. but in hell they would spawn everywhere.
