So guys, my ear-balls have been turning inside out in excitement for this new update! Seeing as I'm a little too old for trick-or-treating (damn shame), I finally have something to be excited about.
Does the Halloween Update have any progress yet, or is it in it's embryonic stages? I just don't want Notch to lose motivation or anything and deliver the update too late.
Also I think hell would look really cool if it had huge lakes of lava, 10-15 block high stalagtites and stalagmites, tall ceilings and no real tunnels. Kind if like the outside world but with a roof of steel.
Maybe there could be a cobblestone texture that looks like it has lava-filled crevices.Think the Mossy cobble, but with lava instead of moss
Monsters would be like small, pig-sized dragons that spit fire at you, and red, stronger skeletons and stuff.
I'm pretty sure that he's started some of those things(by that I mean 100% sure). He just set a date for a big release.
So the updates are set to come out all at once on Halloween? Or will updates be rolling out incrementally, with the goal to have them all out by Halloween? I guess it's a stupid question... just curious.

AAll on holoween its like a treat so we dont have to trick him >.<
Notch has been experimenting with this for a while now, what can be confirmed through his development blog. Also, since the Indev version he has experimented with a Hell theme. Even more, his constant attempt at biomes means he has a very reusable code base that we can be sure already covers a lot of geographical features that will be needed.
2) New mobs
He's been mentioning these for a while, including goblins and kobolds that attack in group. If those will be it, we don't know.
3) Depth-based difficulty
Not very hard to implement from a programming stand-point, as it's merely making certain constants of the gameplay mechanics variable.
4) Temporary torches and lanterns
Has been planned since the start. Previously placed torches will automatically be converted to lanterns, too. All the other details regarding this (torch burn out time, flint and steel to relight, crafting) should not be hard to implement either.
5) Fish
He has been playing with this for a while too, as you can check on his blog. The rushed inclusion of fishing rods is convincing evidence that he had this feature almost done, but couldn't polish enough to release on time.
6) Multiplayer
Probably the hardest thing to tackle in this update, and probably one of the major developments of the new team of programmers.
7) Jack-o-lanterns
We haven't heard of anything like this before, so it's an interesting novelty.
8) Watch
Will possibly reuse the code for the compass, except the needle will use the game's internal day/time clock. This is also trivial to implement.
9) Biomes
He's been experimenting with biomes for a long time now. While challenging, he seems to be at least confident that it can be perfected within a month, which is good news.
10) Music and sounds
This is C418's job, and he has shown several samples of these on his blog and YouTube channel. You can be sure this will pose no problem, as C418 is very prolific.
