I reckon it'd be exactly the same as your landscape but when you went through the portal, everything would glow white, while you couldn't see, the textures would all change to more hellish ones (eg soil into soot), and all water into lava, all ores into different ores, and there would be all sorts of different portals littered around the place, too.
after going through one portal, you would switch back to normal mode?
original portal is transported back to hand?
Anyway, if you died in hell, you would be transported back to where you were in the real world, only with none of your stuff except the ortal, which you could then place and try and get your stuff again...
If you destroy blocks in hell, they will not be affected in the real world.
all creatures that were enemies in the real world will be harder to kill, and have red eyes.
all friendly creatures will be on fire, not being damaged though. They will want to kill you (as you were the one that killed them)
Everything will be angry at you, bcause you are the reason of them being there.
Do I win?
Saddly no, because that wouldn't work with the move 10 meters you are 100s of meters away part of it.
You know, something I'm wondering is how is the Hell map will be stored without changing the map format. Notch can't simply reuse the existing chunks, as there needs to be a compression of space inside hell and an overall difference in topography.
Which means hell will probably get its own set of chunks generated, but the current format doesn't support this directly.
I think we've already seen much of what hell is going to look like. dark all the time, lava everywhere, and not grass. You can be pretty sure it's still going to be a lot like that.
I am hoping for at least one hell specific mob that is extra scary. And the idea of a resource you can only get in hell would be quite cool too. Although even without this I expect people will make some farming operations in hell to take advantage of the increased monster spawn rates there.
Meanwhile, I'm also hoping for a new creepy to show up in the deep. Hopefully something slightly less cuddly than slimes.
You know with all the lava around I was just thinking, Imaging all the Obsidian you could make. (^v*)
Edit: almost forgot. If he does have lava and you go threw a portal for the first time. While its generating the map you might end up standing in lava like some maps start you off in water. The very first map I got when I bought this game about a week ago started me in a lava stream that started high in the mountain. So every time I would spawn I'd be in lava lol. It was a very beautiful map despite the lava but I didn't know enough about the game thinking I couldn't do anything about it so I ended up deleting the map :sad.gif:

If you ever drop your keys into a pool of lava, forget about them, cuz man, they're gone...
I realize this is a noob question but I'm assuming Hell will be a biome? How will the 'normal' grasslands etc. blend in with stretches of hell...? Gates, or what? Or will Hell be a world-type such as a Snow World?
Excuse the question with a most likely obvious answer.
Hell won't be a biome most likely but a other world you can travel to with as of yet unkown means.
And snow world isn't going to be a type any more, as you well have a normal world and find a snowy place, or such, is more likely how it's going to be.
One thing I want is a new monster that would be a flying type. o-o; While that would make Hell unbearable for me, it'd make it challenging. :biggrin.gif:

The hell biome will be used for an alternate fast travel dimension. Have you read Wheel of Time? That.
If this is not gonna be like the immaterium from Warhammer 40k, I'm gonna be pretty disappointed. As soon as I readt "faster travel by going through hell" I couldn't think of it as anything else.
You people need to break out of the thinking that hell will be all lava and fire. Wouldn't a world that is dark and shadowy with a very large very dangerous monster hunting you be better then a boring fire and lava world?

It would! The thing is, we've seen Notch's idea of "Hell" in Indev, and it looks like a world where it's dark and the water is lava. So it's pretty much a safe assumption. I'd be surprised if it was something completely different.

The thing is If something would be better I think notch should spend time making it then using the code he used for indev. Also the hell world in the indev video would not work for a fast travel system because the world needs to be proportioned correctly.
I have a Idea for how the fast travel system would work And i'll post it later when i have more time.

Better for whom? A handful of people agree with us, but it's Notch's call.
Also, there's no reason to assume Hell's dimensions or topography will be at all related to the normal world's. They don't have to be proportional at all. You could have a portal up in a mountain and the other deep into a cave in the normal world, and these would be on the same level in hell.
But we don't know the details yet, so who knows how they're going to work. Let's wait and see.
I personally want the monsters to be exclusive to Hell. The only way I can see being pleased with them crossing over is if they follow you through your portal. That way you can't leave one behind easily.
If he adds seasonal changes then maybe once a month (At full moon) Hell opens up for one night. A literal Hell on Earth for one night until morning when they all explode creeper-style. I would be fine with that...
1.The portals would be randomly generated.
2.The world calculates the amount of chunks between these portals then divides that amount by ten.
3.The the world generates the quick travel world.
4.Each portal gets it's own island (of obsidian).
5.Portals give off a large amount of light.
6.Then the islands are connected by bridges(of obsidian) using the number found in 2.
7.Once all the islands and bridges are done that map generates "extra" islands an bridges connected to the portal ones. This is so the world isn't just portal....long bridge.... next portal.
8. The world is as dark as dusk with fog at medium.
9.Torches light radius is reduced to 4 squares (maybe 5).
10. There is a large impossible (or very near to it) monster that roams the world.
Here is how a first walk through this world would be.
You walk in. your miner instincts kick in and you place torches. Your realize your on a large floating obsidian island with two bridges connected to it. You choose the right bridge. laying Torches as you go, you make it to another empty island with only one bridge connected to it. You follow that bridge. After two more bridges and Islands you see a bright light. It's a portal! You run to it and step through. You find yourself in uncharted land. You quickly head back into the portal to go get some supplies at your base. You walk in to see some of your torches missing... "oh well" you think. I can still find my way back. While crossing the second bridge back, you hear a sound. "Hmmmm.... That's weird" you say. But you continue on your way to your home portal. At the third island you hear the sound again louder. You can begin to make out a rhythmic canting or poem. you continue but in a few seconds you can make out words. "blood.......bones.....crush...." You are on the fourth island. You can see the home portal! You glace behind you to see your portals being uprooted making the area behind you dark as night. Now you can hear all the words. "blood so sweet, bones so tender, crush the bones, drink the blood" You are on the fifth and final bridge! You fire arrows behind you but it does nothing to slow the terror that is gaining on you. "CRUSH THE BONES, BREAK THE SKULL, DRINK THE BLOOD!" You are on the home portal Island! Just as the dark reaches to grab you you jump through the portal and find yourself right next to you home where your adventure started.
That's how the world should work.
(I know this story is very badly written, I'm not a good author.)

saying it's already been made is not a worthy argument. I notch could make the game better he should take the time to code a new world. Honestly lava world really are'nt that fun to play on. Every thing is bright and It's not dangerous unless you have a mental disorder.

this is what he would be referring to.

I don't get why you people want it filled with lava. That would make everything light and not scary at all.
It's also very cliche.
This is worse then then an army of creepers.
Man Will Not Survive
well it's gonna be like the wheel of time fast travel so.....
A red creeper that when it explodes and you are in its blast radius you get caught on fire or it spawns a lava source block.
