Well I for one and really only looking forward to the fishing part of the update. He said maybe normal fishes which I really hope he adds. In any rpg fishing is usually one of my favorite ways to waste away time. and im guessing fishing will be done like mining. Random block with fish on it then you hit it away with fishing poll. Its better than nothing of course something like a mix of shooting a bow, but fishing style would be fun, gotta hit the fish in the water.
EDIT:
There be blocks in water that have fish pics on them, you break with with fishing pole like you would if you were mining for an ore. But use pole instead of pickax.
You see a fish swimming in the water, and you [right click] to send a lure from fishing pole at the fish to kill/catch it like hunting.

This is confusing. How would it work?

What? So when pigs get hit by lighting, they suddenly develop into bipeds and receive brown leather skirts and golden swords from nowhere?
I can imagine the a variety of fish in block form like in runescape
Where a water block would have splashing activity of different colors or shapes (the respective fish)
and you would left/right click and hold on the block until you get the fish (the block disappears?) so it would be similar to mining, you would get a certain amount of fish? 2-4.
Then with the whole biomes idea there could be a PLETHORA of different fishies
Ranging from fresh water trout to salt water fish, river fish, piranhas in the jungle, going on a boat to the middle of the ocean to find a rare and exclusive fish block and ETC.
Then water mobs would be a whole separate thing all together, they would be actually entities like sheep and cows and would roam the waters (mostly aggressive?) and passive ones like dolphins and whales
I hope we see the fish swimming aorund in the water, it will make islands and oceans seem alot more populated. Plus it will be a nice simple way to get food anywhere you are without hunting pigs
I would imagine the fish to be visible swimming in the water, it would be a matter of attaching bait (pork? mushrooms? other fish?), casting your line into a body of water, and hoping that one of said fish comes to bite.

Ohhh i like the idea of needing bait, but if it something like ham then whats the point of fishing? Your losing one food item for a new one. Unless you can get more then just food from a fish, maybe scales for some kind of armor or something.
I hope fishing would happen with the bringing of sea mobs. They would be too fast to swim and catch them, so you'll have a fishing pole and line to lure them to the hook. This way if a lake or stream is too shallow or small, fish won't spawn. And deeper the water, the larger groups of fish.
And since its a mob, I hope for hostile sea mobs. See a big fin, and tell yourself "I gonna need a bigger boat."
Sharks are over rated though... I prefer jellyfish or octopi. <_<

I like the fish scale armor idea, and maybe a fish as weapon. :tongue.gif:
But on a more serious note, we should be able to catch smaller fish with rods, but larger ones could be hunted with a bow and arrow or a craftable harpoon. The harpoon would deal a bit of extra melee damage and be throwable and retrievable even on hit, to an extent, and the recipe could be like:

I'm pumped to hunt giant sea monsters in a viking longship.
Speaking of that, make a craftable multi-person/storage viking longship, my brother.

Also, any water in the area will INSTANTLY EVAPORATE through processes only understood by SCIENTISTS and some THEOLOGIANS.
I'm most excited about the new Halloween update, especially the new monsters, but... STILL!!! Fishing seems like a good idea, as long as it is useful, not like the milk and eggs for now...
I think Minecraft fishing should be different than the fishing in other games (in other games, you don't punch trees for wood). Throwing a line in the water and waiting for a while would get boring fast.
I hope they are a sort of mob like other creatures. Though they would need swimming animations and restrictied to the water. Perhaps diffrent ones spawn in diffrent conditions.
When im finish my current buildings im going to building a massive fishing dock :biggrin.gif:!!

Oh my, now I hope there's fish-tanks so I can make my recreation of Ocarina of Time's fishing hole complete.
LARGEST FISH CAUGHT BY: DERP (17 inches)
Or, failing that, the ability to release fish back into the water so I can have a large aquarium.

lol, go smack a in the face with a fish....i have to admit it would be fun

Could try cutting trees with a fish >___<
