I will tolerate magic if it works like alchemy. Resource dependant for incredible effect.
Also, the Waygates in The Wheel of Time were stationary and indestructable. I'm wondering if the portals to the hell dimension in this will be made of adminium?
Will we be able to make them? Out of Obsidian and redstone or something crazy?
I'm really interested to see how smooth the transition between worlds will be. Will it be seamless like in Portal? Or will there be an obvious jump as you go from one place to another?
I totally expect some seriously evil monsters in the Traveler's Hell dimension.

End ignorance, myth and misinformation.
Below is the sourced list of Notch's actual words: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=49256
Actually, Notch likened it to The Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan (possibly the best fantasy series of all time). They used Waygates and Portal Stones for quick travel.
This. He said it better than I did.
Thanks, and I agree that it is one of the best fantasy series out there.
I've read all of 'em so much that the spines broke...
You're welcome, and same here! I can't get enough of The Gathering Storm's ending.

So... I was building my HUGE dickbridge across the universe, when I stopped to get some more wood.
Well, it's probably safe to assume that if the portal is craftable, it would be hard to craft. My assumption is this:
The lava, of course, is actually lava in a bucket, which is kind of difficult to find. I used cobblestone as a filler, because I can't think of anything that wouldn't be too hard to find, and not too easy. Any suggestions?
1 thing im going to bet on is at first the portals will suck ass as i can imagine the generator will **** up sometimes, and make the portal right above a giant pool of lava or some ****..
But that would be half the fun.

This would be optimal. I can't really say I can see it being another way.
I understand you can teleport or something within it, but how is it going to be implemented? Also will it like something like Oblivion?
Have you read The Wheel of Time?
Notch said it will be kind of like The Ways in that series.
Basically, gates that take you into an alternate dimension where time is different.
1 days worth of travel could be 100 days worth of travel.
However, it got corrupted and is dangerous and the like.
So sort of like the Warp in Warhammer 40k.
Faster travel but the chance of getting violently killed by demons.

I'm guessing it'd be more like...

I was considering putting in obsidian too, but finding 6-8 blocks of still lava isn't exactly easy. Not to mention you'd need an exit portal too, so 12-16 blocks!
I think this is very interesting, but still... I want to clear this up: PREPARE FOR LOTSH OF INFORMASHION
well, whats to say about "THE WAYS..." You start out in total blackness...and light gets "eaten" by the shadows all around you... There is no wind, or weather... JUST BLACKNESSHHHH....
On a more serious note, you basically follow a white line from the gate to a column, where a specific race in the book would read it and tell you where to go... (There were basically islands with these columns, floating everywhere)... SOme of these islands had broken bridges, but the bridges were the only real way of transportation. You get to the column, the guy translates it for you, you follow the white line form THAT column to a DIFFERENT Way Gate, then you exit the way gate..
Undoubtedly, I explained this horribly but here you go for a little more of an explanation"
Come out of Way Gate----->Column (Translate it)-----> use bridges to get to desired column------>translate desired column (all columns have ancient script on it)------> follow white line from column to desired way gate... BAM You're right where you wanted to be!!! (BTW All columns have the ancient script on it)
Now... THIS IS THE INTERESTING PART SO PAY ATTENTION :smile.gif:
In the original series, there are lots of "evils" There is a version of the devils, but there are also types of "different evil entities." In the Ways, the most evil thing that can cross your path is a very evil entity called "THE BLACK WIND." Basically, no one knows what it is, but it is a wind that is like a hurricane, and anyone who is in the middle is driven mad by pain... The entity seems to be obsessed with pain (WEIRD) so it naturally is mean to the honest traveller.
SOrry if its way to confusing its the 2nd best I could do :smile.gif:
REALY LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS!

thats all well and good but in the books the ways were seen as a last resort because of the high stakes where as this will be used more commonly so i think it will be constant darkness and the monsters will be stronger eg: spider super jump, skeleton flaming arrows, creepers explode with shrapnell and zombies... well there still just zombies lol mayby faster? and water might be toxic to show the taintedness? ( i love making up words) but who knows

Obviously not,but itd be cool. Im very much looking forward to this new update.

Landscapes like mountainous, beach, hilly, and themes like hell, paradise, etc.
I think it will be almost exactly like indev hell, the sky was red, lava lakes, and EVERYTHING was a floating chunk of land mass.

You fool! Firing the Exterminatus at an active portal to hell will result in a feedback and destroy the world!

Dragons need to be implemented. No arguments.

Because it's a survival game. In SURVIVAL games your not supposed to be Tommy Testosterone Tits. you supposed to be weak frail and easily killed.
