I believe it will be exactly like TES IV: Oblivion.
A neat, little-known fact about Oblivion is you can enter one Oblivion gate, and find another inside it and exit, and end up half-way across the map. It's not really easy, but it's wicked cool when you first stumble upon one.
think of it like then, you enter a black hole, your then in somewhere else you dont want to be, so you think the way to get back is to go through another, could lead you closer, or farther, so you enter another black hole, turns out, its farther :wink.gif:
I understand you can teleport or something within it, but how is it going to be implemented? Also will it like something like Oblivion?
Have you read The Wheel of Time?
Notch said it will be kind of like The Ways in that series.
Basically, gates that take you into an alternate dimension where time is different.
1 days worth of travel could be 100 days worth of travel.
However, it got corrupted and is dangerous and the like.
Never read it no, so if time is the only thing altered. How will we ( ) know the difference between 1 day and 1000 days?
I like, especially if you can build in hellworld. Just imagine, making a 10 step long bunker inside hellworld with the sole purpose of travelling from one of your bases to your outposts, never knowing whether during a trip through your bunker will still be intact.
And when going through for the first time, not knowing exactly where your coming out will be pretty interesting!

What's off this cliff? *bump* AAaaaaah, damn you sheep!
I believe that you should not be able to "live" in the hell world.
here's how that would happen.
First there is only obsidian in the hell world. To make it see dark and dangerous.
Then torches light radius is reduced.
Since torches will go out eventually you will run out of torches and die.
Then you use lanterns but the huge monster that lives in the world can destroy blocks so you boned anyways.

Muncher is right, listen to him, he can cure the blind and make paraplegics walk.

Didn't think about it being like that, but if it is, Hell World = Win.

I like the idea of a large creature that can distroy blocks. Something like a giant. The world should also be extremely dark, like its always cloudy there. Maybe a special type of block those only appears in hell world. Like a new type of ?
A good way to think of the "hell dimension" is like X-Men's Nightcrawler's teleportation power.
When he teleports, he exists for a brief second in a dangerous, hellish dimension before returning to our normal dimension.
Another analogue would be Doom 3 and it's teleporter technology. When created, scientists were unaware that they were essentially "tunneling through hell" whenever they used their shiny new toys.
My only hope for Notch's implementation is that one could try to stay in "hell" if they so wished, except that players would be bombarded by attacks from hellish monstrosities 'round the clock, have access to little or no resources, and generally be extremely difficult to subsist for any length of time.
Having said that, it might be interesting if there were a block type or two that could only be found in "hell", and if sought out and brought back to the normal world, could be used for something interesting or useful. It would obviously need to be rather rare, and difficult to obtain, but could add some 'depth to hell', pardon the pun.

Actually, Notch likened it to The Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan (possibly the best fantasy series of all time). They used Waygates and Portal Stones for quick travel.

So... I was building my HUGE dickbridge across the universe, when I stopped to get some more wood.
I'd have to guess the Hell World gets more and more hostile the longer you stay in it (environment and/or mobs) and the effects linger for a while after you exit.
The question now is, who will be the first to make this Hell their home?
Probably what I'm most excited about, really, just for the cool factor of it. You can bet it'll be like the hell mode in the indev version: (by the way, we need some spooky music for hell, dammit!)
What I'm curious about is exactly how the portals will be created (natural/artificial) and how would the topography of hell be related to the topography of the normal world, if they were to be related at all.
Anyway: AWESOME!

Then I am going to build a house with an orchard on the roof and a nice view of the pit of eternal suffering.
I might be the only one but I'm gonna build temples around these portals and minecarts that lead into the portals for teh funz of it xD. :ohmy.gif: that will be awesome to trap noobs make a huge intricate minecart track that everyone wants to ride but in reality dumps them in hell :biggrin.gif:!
personally I think hell should have a few special creatures definantly new/special block types but also it should have the usual overworked monsters like creepers but they are better. . like umm. . . bigger stronger larger blast radius/strength/awesomeness who knows
Only thing i'm wondering is, if two portal need to be on the same already explore map to be connected or if it can send u in an unexplored world. If it those wonder how the cartographer program will handle it X_X

Walk in a gate
avoid the crazy hard monsters
come out another gate
go really far
?????
Profit
