I have not ridden a pig off a cliff. The rail one is broken. I went for a kilometer in my backroom and never got it.
OH GOD WHYYY?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
So I was working on this really cool resource pack a while ago, but bad progress nonwithstanding, I think I found something much better... I'm probably gonna never release another custom Minecraft map.Until we meet again...
The achievements were meant to be acted like a sort of "tutorial" because the patches before 1.5 didn't have one. They were designed to be relatively easy so the newbies knew what to do at the start. i am pretty sure harder ones are yet to come so there is more variety.
What do you guys mean by harder? As I said, the "im achievement crazed and like doing stupid, meaningless tasks to unlock a pointless achievement" achievements are just stupid. They wont act as a tutorial at all and if this achievement system is supposed to be a tutorial, the pointless ones wont serve that purpose.
They distract from the game. People going out of their way to built a super long railway purposely to get that 1km achievement is evidence for this.
To me, the game IS building stuff, and mining for the resources to do it. I like to make towers, bridges, tunnels and other "civil engineering" projects. I'm not sure how building a super long railway is a distraction, if that's what the player wants to do. If you look at my http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1043&t=328186 thread, you'll see I didn't just build a rail on the ground and do the minimum work to get the achievement, but built other simple and elaborate structures to amuse myself every few hundred meters.
How about something challenging for once? this thread seems to be lacking it
Irony: make a charged creeper blow up a redstone circuit with at least one weapon (tnt, dispenser) on it
It's alive!: Make lightning hit a pig you placed a saddle on
Family Fued: Make at least 4 hostile mobs fight eachother at once
I have the power!: Make a diamond sword
Pyro is a spy!: Burn someone in SMP
I totally agree with you, the achievements are a big let down (I still need to buy the game, but I have friends, so I know the stuff) you should see them for now as a guide for beginners. so you shouldn't cry about difficulty because the first roots = low difficulty.
as someone above me already stated the achievements are hard to write in code. this is totally true, and be happy that he had the courage to make this!
another thing i want to point out is that you think about achies only. I am dissapointed about more things too. are you not dissapointed with farming or the amount of monsters? or those stupid bugs that eats your saves? <---- him
I hope that we will get better achies too bro, I really do. but I just wanted to let you know that Notch is human, and that the game is not finished yet!
RD4life
shorter version: Notch still has 180 days till official release, nuf said
I still have achievements I have yet to complete- not because they're too difficult (Well, I did run out of iron) but because even though they are there, I don't have the need to immediately unlock them all. Yeah, it's great to do so and adds in a sort of goal to Minecraft, but it's not a goal that you HAVE to reach. It's one hat you CAN, and that's what makes MC so great in the first place- the ability to do such amazing things, not the need to.
Minecraft's "story mode" is exactly what you make it to be- your own story.
I think Notch made them that way so that the people who don't like achievements are too mad, and the people who do like achievements can have a little bit of fun. Either way, I think that he could easily add many, many more. Hopefully- keep your fingers crossed!
I disagree. I noticed how your pretty much pushing Notch. He didn't have ALLLLL the time in the world to add a bunch of things you want when he doesn't even know! You should respect him for what he's done. He might add more achievements! If you want more achievements, go learn to mod! Make your own you greedy disrespectful impatient troll!
or 1000+ crappy achievements that people are suggesting, so it seems like you get one for every single little task you do, and they become a chore?
Actually, i want 1000+ crappy achievements, like, kill 100 spiders with fishing rod sounds fun o.o, or make a 1mile pure gold cart system(those thingies you need gold to make)
and i would do every one of them legit.
Yes, these achievements we got now are good for those who are new to the game, but for us that has played for a while these do not feel like "Achievements": The process or fact of achieving something
- the achievement of professional recognition
- sense of achievement
when i heard that achievements would be added to minecraft, i used hours to find the perfect starter map...
Yes, i am one of those no lifers that love achievements, spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on games for my X360 just to get more points.
(sorry for waking somewhat of an old thread, but it was better then starting a new thread just for random complaining)
Edit: oh yeah, for those who says that i should just go and mod my own, where is the fun in that? IF i would make my own achievement system for this game, i need a easy and cheater secure webpage to display them in, for anyone that want to use them too, (and the obvious competing reasons) and right there it would stop anyone to make this happened, since no mode should ever upload information to a third party server.

No no no no. What I meant was, people go out of their way to do this stuff. In other words, they wouldnt normally build these structures, they are just doing it for the achievement. They build the railway purposely and only for the achievement. I love civil engineering stuff too. In fact, id love to make a working sewer system in a city that connects to ever building. Ill be sure to do that once I get my new computer built. Ive also made subway and tram systems/stations before. So you see, I think its great that people like building more complex structures than a square block house. In fact, I encourage it. What I dont like seeing is when people dont care about building nice structures, they just like getting the achievement. So instead of making a rail road to connect one town to another (that happens to be 1km or more away), they just made a super long track that serves no other purpose. See what I mean?
I am really disappointed with the achievements Notch :smile.gif: put on in the 1.5 update. There's hardly any of them and they are all really basic stuff (finished them in like... 10 minutes). I hope he will have the mind to make a super-awesome achievement system (possibly with in-game rewards?) so that I can do achie hunting!

Cos its from where you started, +1000 m in ur coords.
Fix'd
I think...

things like that i aggree with, but i dont want achievements for EVERYTHING, Notch said that's what stats are fro
Irony: make a charged creeper blow up a redstone circuit with at least one weapon (tnt, dispenser) on it
It's alive!: Make lightning hit a pig you placed a saddle on
Family Fued: Make at least 4 hostile mobs fight eachother at once

just a few off the top of my head
STOP LYING! NOTCH IS NOT A HUMAN

you mined 500 iron in like 10 mins?
Doubt it
