I wish people would actually use their heads and stop making up achievements that are:
1. Impossibly hard (like survive a minecraft year on hard without taking any damage.)
2. Incredibly stupid (die 50 times, seriously, achievements like that aren't fun.)
3. Total chore (collect over 9000 of block x)
4. Too luck based (witness a mob being struct with lightning)
5. Full stupid References (THE CAKE IS A LIE!!11 LOLOLO - no, it's not funny, stop that)
Some people pull ideas out of their ass without thinking if the achievement makes any sense at all, throw a diamond in lava, kill yourself x times. Seriously people, do you really WANT to throw a diamond to lava? Make the achievements FUN without too much labor and luck.

These achievment descriptions will be how you get them, rather than what the in-game discription will read.
Also I'm trying to avoid ones such as 'Open your inventory' or 'Make a pickaxe' because they seem a little too simple... I mean, you wouldn't find things like that on bigger games, would you?
Edit: I split up the achievements to make the thing easier to read.

the problem is, the achievemtns as a whole boith whats in the game, and what suggested are stupid. mining a diamond, powering a redstone, punching a tree for wood are tasks that almost everyu player will achomplish by playing, its not an avievment. its liek steam giving you an achivment for beating a chapter in a game, or switiching weapons the first time.
they should be something a player has to activally hunt for, something that requires some practice. the catching ghast is a start, getting a skeleton to shoot a creeper and kill it is another.
riding a pig off a cliff was an ok one, though it was far better before saddle were craftable, because it took actual effort and determination to do.

I know that achievements like "Open Inventory" don't seem like achievements to us now, but I know that the first time I played, opening my inventory was an achievement, as it took me a while to even realize I had an inventory. Learning I could harvest wood and how to craft were achievements for me back then as well.
It's important to look at these from the point of view of someone fresh to the game, some people don't even know how to move, or that they can jump, much less that they have an inventory and the ability to craft things.
In this way the achievements start as achievements for the completely clueless, as many of us were in the very beginning, but the achievements move on to more complex behaviors, the type that most of us who've played a ton are at.
The achievement system is both a tutorial and about achieving goals.

and this is where i disagree, i knew i had an inbventory, reguardless of the fact ive seen a video, its a game about collecting thigs, seems obvious. and its right there ion the control settings anyways. the achivements dotn teach you anythign what so ever. it told you how to open inventory, but it doesnt give you the exact recipee for anything. and besides we have minecraft wiki for new players anyways.
if you think there needs to be a toturial then find, but a tut, and a achievment are two diffrent things.

Yeah, I'll try to design the achievements in a way where it can branch off from what we have. Although, I would rather provide a visual representation of showing that rather than giving direction as to what requires what. I will either provide a document displaying such information, or constructively produce an image that can do so. Either way, I'll be going through the achievements you guys have suggested with the consideration that it takes to make them branch off properly as to how the game functions today.
Would it be necessary to have achievements on SMP? However as long as those achievements don't get you kicked like "Kill your Best Friend" or something like that.
By the way, I am creating a .txt document based on the Current Achievement Structure of Minecraft, so I'll be posting it when I have enough new achievements to show how exactly it will work.

and this is where i disagree, i knew i had an inbventory, reguardless of the fact ive seen a video, its a game about collecting thigs, seems obvious. and its right there ion the control settings anyways. the achivements dotn teach you anythign what so ever. it told you how to open inventory, but it doesnt give you the exact recipee for anything. and besides we have minecraft wiki for new players anyways.
if you think there needs to be a toturial then find, but a tut, and a achievment are two diffrent things.

Although, I would rather provide a visual representation of showing that rather than giving direction as to what requires what. I will either provide a document displaying such information, or constructively produce an image that can do so.
