Thanks for saying what I was about to say about that. People are just irrational, I am completely caught off guard when a simple post like this infuriates people. Apperently any opinion that is not the same as theirs is blasphemy.
I agree with you about that. A lot people on these forums think "OMG U NO AGRE WIT ME U STUPED" more than anything else.

who cares? i'd take both there babies and throw them down a cliff if it means this mod will happen faster
Point noted. I need to reword it, because you are correct. It is not so much a goal as it is a statistic. I prefer my statistics to be the best, because that means I am the best i can possibly be, which would be better than everyone else. Does that make more sense? They are a goal as in having the best stats is my goal.
You know, that's more of a personal problem. Nothing anyone says can change how you feel about statistics. You have serious issues that you should probably think about and work through.
You have the right to whine about the stats and achievements but if you don't like it, why update to 1.5? You'll miss out on all the cool things Notch adds later, but you won't have to ever have to feel inferior because you don't have the best of the best stats.
If he's an OCD driven... lunatic... then say NOTHING. Don't post things like "Herp derp, OCD must suck". If the guy is telling the truth, or even if he's not; don't take that chance. Surely it's obvious?
If he's some random guy who bought Minecraft and now doesn't like a certain aspect of the game for some reason, don't spam him with "WELL INGORE". Talk as if he's a person, not as if he's 'just another patient'. Say things like "Well, personally I really like Stats, they give me something to aim for, and I don't have to write it down :D". Please.
Thread lo - Oh wait, I'm not a mod. Ah well.
Thanks for saying what I was about to say about that. People are just irrational, I am completely caught off guard when a simple post like this infuriates people. Apperently any opinion that is not the same as theirs is blasphemy.
Perhaps you could ask someone who is savvy with lua script to make a mod that removes stats for you?
Personal question: do you feel your desire to have the best stats is a compulsion?
For what it's worth, I don't see stats as really a goal or a vehicle for competition. I see it as more of a reference. People claim to have divine luck with finding diamonds, well now they can back it up. Some people wonder how long they've been playing without finding a fricken pumpkin, well now they can know. That said, it would be nice to allow some customization for the stats function. Like the ability to turn it off if you find them distracting. Or to use it like an odometer, being able to reset certain categories if you want to keep track of certain things.
Alright, let me make this simple because many of you seem to ignorant to truelly read and infer what I am saying. I do not like stats, and I am wondering how others feel about them. Do you like them, or hate them like I do. This is my opinion, not me whining, which I am intitled to. I feel stats give the game a purpose or something to distract me from doing exactly what I want, which is why I fell in love with the game. Every other game has stats or goals that never end and they bother me. It is like a car that rattles when you drive it, yes, one can ignore it, but why would one want to do that when they can try to fix it. I want an option added in to remove or disable stats if a player does not want them. If you tell me to ignore them you are not only being ignorant in that you have disregarded the OP, but close-minded in that it is not something that can just be ignored so easily by everyone. Now, maybe you like keeping track of your stats and that is fine, but some of us don't and I want to hear what others think and why. I loved minecraft before this update but now it is just another game to me. I have lost a lot of the passion I had for it and it seems needless.
Um, the stats in Minecraft are just data about what you've done. What makes you so obsessive over them? You can ignore them because they are only relevant to what particular stat you are interested in (like how much you've walked or something). Unless you mean achievements, which you could hammer those out and be done with them. Most of the achievements are easy (cut a tree down...).
Y'know, no matter how much it annoys you that other posters are telling you to ignore stats, they have a point. Stats don't automatically pop up at any point. They never force themselves upon you. They never even update you with their progress unless you manually choose to look at them.
If they annoy you that much, seriously, just don't click the button. You can't have the best stats, you can't have the best anything in Minecraft. You pretty much have 2 options at this point:
1. Don't click the button, pretend it's not there and enjoy the game some more.
2. Ragequit.
It is just annoying you know... I would prefer it if they didn't exist. Why should I have to ignore something in a game I bought? If I want it without stats why can it not be available. I do not buy a crap car and just ignore that it is crap.
1. But nobody FORCED you to buy minecraft...
2. There is more people that like it than there are people who hate it.
3. Way to take one of the LEAST competitive games in the world and turn it into one.
4. I understand you are just annoyed, but learn to ignore it, if you can't I cannot see how far you will make it once you are in the adult world.
5. You are acting like a child.

Okay, obviously I overestimated the intelligence of my audience. Let me make it more clear for you all.
8. You are clearly overestimating your own intelligence as well because you CAN ignore the stats.
9. Stop being a troll and get the hell out.
why see stats as a goal, it doesnt really make sense. when you run a race do you lookat your time and go "oh no my time is a stat and stats can be beaten. why even bother runnng", didnt think so.
the only time they should ever be near the word 'goal' is if they were being used to check how close you are to the goal, i.e. you decided one day you were going to walk 42 km in minecraft so you use stats to check how far youve walked.
Point noted. I need to reword it, because you are correct. It is not so much a goal as it is a statistic. I prefer my statistics to be the best, because that means I am the best i can possibly be, which would be better than everyone else. Does that make more sense? Stats are highly time dependant. Digging blocks, placing blocks, crafting items, all takes time. If you interperit "the best" as being "the highest number" then the person who is "the best" will be someone who is among the top in terms of time spent playing Minecraft. It's that simple. If you want to be "better," play more.
Or, you could pick an interpolated stat, such as Best Diamond Miner. This would be something like Diamonds Mined divided by the sum of all blocks mined. Does it take math? Yes. Does it actually give you a stat you can be the best at? Yes. (though it would be luck dependant).
As they are, stats are just basic stats, there is no best or worst. It's how you interperit the stats that makes a best or worst, and from there determine who is actually the best. Saying someone is better than you because they dug more blocks is like saying someone is a better driver just because they've gone more miles. (and if you've seen an old person drive you know that probably isn't true)
i like the achievements for being some kind of tutorial for new players, but i don’t like stats.
i am able to ignore them though. if i could, i’d just make the stats-button disappear, but i can’t, so i ignore it, like i ignore the “Save” button below the text filed i’m typing in right now.
My goal is not to have the best numbers. My goal is to have a mansion, a white picket fence, a dog, and riches. And not being ass-raped by skeleton's bony dicks at sundown. But I can understand being bugged out by the stats, seeing as most people want to be the best block man ever and I just want to be in one piece by dawn.
While stats and achievements are a great idea for some, I think an option to remove them should be present. That way, everyone wins. This is mostly for the achievement popups, but for some just having that statistics can be annoying.
First, achievements are extremely limited at the moment, with at most a half hour of time dedicated to obtaining them all if you're an experienced player, so I don't see how they could already "drain most of your passion for minecraft".
Second, they're meant to be for beginners to reward them for learning various aspects of the game, and to be little fun things to achieve for experienced players. If you don't even look at the chart, you might just find you unlocked a nice achievement for building a big railroad, and who doesn't like a pat on the back? I'd recommend not looking at the chart :smile.gif:
As for stats, if you feel the need to achieve anything that's presented in front of you as a goal, with no ability to ignore it or just spontaneously achieve as you play, then perhaps you should think a bit on why that is? They're very non-obtrusive in the GUI, and unless you're somehow obligated by yourself to go look at them, you don't really need to click the "stats" button. They're not even available for the viewing of others right now, just something to keep tabs on yourself if you want to.

its legit to feel that way, but for me I love the idea of tracking what I've done in the game.
YO dude i think you got the wrong idea. Stats are keeping track of your game! They are not to distract you, but tell you how long youve played, ETC.
They dont have a goal or anything so yea

Just deal with it or ignore it, adding stats to the game shouldn't be a deal-breaker.
