hi, i just joined the forums because something happened to me that i thought was weird enough to be worth posting...
i started up a new world and began looking for coal, as i hopped towards the top of a large hill i spotted something that should not have been there:
somehow my trees are burning...
i have not even punched a tree yet much less made flint and steel...
i checked around and found no lava...
its just a hilly area with moderate tree cover (at least it used to have tree cover) adjacent to a small snowing zone, and a short distance from the thin strip of beach i spawned on...
i am now going to go watch my forest burn and get back starting up my new world, just wanted to share this odd occurrence with the rest of you...
thats the best explanation i could think of too... perhaps notch snuck more into the halloween update than he admits...lol
either way i've now carved out a home half way up a cliff overlooking my beautiful burning forest...
do logs burn indefinitely? because it is a rather nice view :3
You should have immediately saved and copied that save to us (START->Run->"%appdata%\.minecraft\saves") . It's hard to tell what happened now. (I still believe there have been lava somewhere, maybe waterfall changed it into obsidian/cobblestone after that)
i was never particularly worried about it, just thought it was weird and wanted to share...
i saw it less as a problem i wanted advice on, or needed fixing, and more of an interesting way to introduce myself to the community, since i tend to have trouble finding anything worth saying or posting
Its settled then. Herobrine is lurking in your save and when you least expect it, he will strike.
It was nice knowing ya. (Well, i actually don't know you so......... yeah)
Herobrine is probably watching you right now.

"More fun than a barrel of monkeys." Has anyone ever stopped to think how cranky, if not downright vicious, a barrelful of monkeys would be, especially once released from the barrel? -Tom Shales
Probably lava, my question is, if a mob is on fire, can they light other things on fire? I know that you can't if your burning, also the lava kills much more quickly so I don't think a burning mob caused it.
Anyways thats quite a find O.o

Herobrine was riding a Ghast that escaped from the Nether, and the Ghast in question was swimming in an underground lavaflow that hit the tree and set it on fire while Herobrine pwned it on and the Ghast sneezed it on .

Someone once told me you could actually use the eggs and bucket of milk to make a cake. Turns out it was just a lie...
In one of X's Minecraft video's he ended up on a newly generated island with a huge stream of lava coming from a mountainside. When he came closer the lava was naturally retreating, by itself.
Something like that might have hapend here, lava got generated, set the trees ablaze, then some environmental whatever killed it. Maybe a tree supported a gravelblock that was holding sandblocks around the lava sourceblock, the leaves burned and then the gravel fell taking the sand with it blocking off the lava flow or w/e just a theory.
THIS HAPPENED TO ME LAST NIGHT. I found a pool of lava above ground around a bunch of flaming trees. I go up to it and hang out collectin tree branches and then the lava dissapeared, like it dried up. Didn't find any other lava spring and I didn't place any blocks or change the environment other than grab floating flaming tree trunks.
Just goes to show you never know what will happen in the world of Minecraft. I've seen instances where lava flows out of a mountain on the surface, maybe that happened but you had the good fortune of having some trees in front of it.

Yeah I saw that video to but maybe this time the lava was receding the other way and down into the ground or something like that.

This is similar to what happened to me yesterday, I was carefully building an incinerator about 5 o5 6 blocks away from my house and all of the sudden a few minutes my entire house was on :VV:! plus the fire started at the top of my house not at the bottom where the incinerator was, also i was on peaceful so there were no monsters to cause the fire.
My guess is that some times when a map is being generated it uses parts of old maps. Maybe it pulled in some fire which quickly spread to all your trees.
