Before you guys start assuming; No, i'm not writing a butthurt rampage here. Just voicing a thought if anything.
Biomes was an awesome concept when I first heard Notch write about it in his blog, I mean, variable lands and the like and making the random map generation interesting as you explore! But as this was implemented I cant help but feel a bit let down. Biomes so far come off to be very very small most of the time. (The biggest i've encountered was as big as a 'span' of viewdistance, if that makes sense) and not much more.
Personally, I was kind of hoping for a biome to be a very large expanse of land that would require a good deal of traveling to find another. Instead, you find mix-matched blotches of biomes here and there that just give scenery a very unpleasant appearance to the landscape. I'm sure some of you guys have come across those nasty looking sand/dirt or sand/stone 'mountains' that just are atrocious to look at, that eventually bleed off into another biome of sort.
Another being Winter/tundra biomes that seem to cover one little area at a time or look completely out of place.
I dunno, I just wish you could have an option to turn 'biomes' back and get the old, foresty/grassy landscapes back. Stuff looked nice then.
+1 to hoping that he'll change the code to make much larger areas, to give each biome more 'emersion'. No reason to have small biomes now that huge distance travel is available via portals.

Kthx
OT: Biomes are just the foundation for new things. Different biomes will house different things in the future.
Remember people *points to self* sometimes cant have that great of a computer for exploring large biomes to find things if you cant figure out yourself google "How to make minecraft biomes larger" or do it yourself in the game files!

Floating island biomes exist. But they are not biomes for the reason that they have different biomes on top of them.
But i guess you could say that they are biomes. But they exist. And so do oceans. But oceans are rare for some reason.

But larger biomes need to go hand-in-hand with movable spawn points, working nether portals and working mine carts in SMP.
