Say, what is your favorite? What do you usually watch, Japanese or American animated movies / shows?
I for one, prefer Japanese animations over American. Japanese people put so much more effort into making their shows than the Americans do. I also enjoy listening to Japanese instead of American, for some reason.
Both of them have their merits, and each differ depending on what you watch. I prefer some of both, I loathe some. Quality varies wildly, some phenomenally good, and some are utter crap. In the end, it's up to you to see what you decide is good.

I believe in freedom, Mr. Lipwig. Not many people do, although they will, of course, protest otherwise. And no practical definition of freedom would be complete without the freedom to take the consequences. Indeed, it is the freedom upon which all the others are based.
Ecchi in anime is both extremely excessive and annoying. There are japanese animations out there that don't have it though. I just dislike American Animation artists trying to do Japanese Animation. It just doesn't work. American Characters are too realistic looking and are waay to muscular. (This applies more to manga than to animation)
If I want comedy, it's american animation all the way. If I want anything else(serious sci-fi, drama, action, thriller), it's gotta be anime. I don't like anime comedy in general, because there are too many cliches and conventions thrown around instead of the animators genuinely trying to be original.
I really like Japanese voice acting. Over there, being a voice actor is a job that garners a lot of attention, so they always have good voice actors that really get into their roles.
I'm probably 60/40 in favor of Japanese animation.
Anime generally has better animation in comparison to American IMO.
Most series I've watched have much more fluid animation during action scenes, however I've been finding it more and more difficult to find newer series that I enjoy. They all tend to be moving in the same direction which has been frustrating.
I prefer Japanese animation.
I hate how many obvious lazy shortcuts I see in American cartoons these days. It's rather disgusting. There's a few American gems that still have my heart, like Adventure Time & MLP, but for the most part, I see more quality in Japanese cartoons.

Are you thinking of a specific style or just the uniqueness in general.
But I've never really been a big fan of Japanese anime so I prefer American anyway..
And I watch a mix of anime and American.
It gets a result.
on american side, family guy is the best in my opinion
It's a nice style too.

Like anime? Try Visual Novels.

Edit: And Avatar.
I'd say it's a tie. Both have equal amounts of awesome, it's just spread out differently.

They're equally the same for now, unless you include new CN shows (exclude MLP, inb4 haters) and Disney. In that case, Japanese.
