And before you ask, yes I am Armenian. It sickens me every day that The Turks can get away with such a crime by saying a simple statement as "it was part of WW1". And the fact that they don't even ****ing coin it as a "genocide" sickens me even more. And not only were the Armenians were killed during "the genocide" but so were The Greeks. I honestly want to know what you you guys think. Also, before you post, please do not start any flame wars or bring religous or political debates.
I honestly do believe that it was genocide and when I first heard about it, I was really surprised to see that the Turks to this day, still deny it as genocide AND got away with it.
bummer, it's history now
germany brought upon the holocaust, not like we view them all as jew-haters
you're generalizing an entire population by saying all turks deserve to be punished, and that makes you look stupid
war is war, horrible things happen that are beyond a population's control. you have to deal with that.
It has been nearly a century since this happened. Everyone that had a hand in this is dead, and this happened long before you, or anyone currently in the Turkish government was born. I feel you have no right to be outraged at an entire country for something that you didn't even experience. Furthermore, what good would an apology from Turkey do? Would it bring those dead people back? Would it affect any of us in any meaningful, tangible way, besides giving some angry people peace of mind? The current Turks didn't commit this act, why should they be held accountable for something their ancestors did?
I think it is morally wrong to ask for someone to apologize for the actions of their parents and grandparents, especially when the people demanding the apology aren't even the ones that directly endured it. This kind of thinking is what causes blood feuds that last centuries.
Turkey gets away with it simply because they did not conduct the genocide. The Ottoman Empire did and when the new state replaced the old, there was no one to punish - politically speaking, of course.
It seems that there were trials and assassinations to some of those responsible. I'll say this has the same justice rating as the Nazi one.
What we should learn from this, is to never discriminate others in law. Unfortunately, with the anti-immigration beliefs of the United States, some people haven't learned this yet.

I never really said they need to be punished. They just need to give them back the land that they stole from them. Armenia used to be the size of California, now it is the size of New Jersey. I am also not saying all Turks are bad. In fact, some of my best friends are Turks. This what I exactly meant by my last sentence.
uhm, OP, this thread could not exist without political debate; unless you want it to be a "poor you that was a terrible thing"
On topic: it's in the past, it's too late. Most of the people who there there for it are dead from old age, so in a was the Turks then and Turks now should be viewed as 2 different peoples. To bring punishment on the Turks of today would be meaningless and would do nothing more than make them victims of the tragedy too.
was it a terrible thing; yes. should they have gotten away with it; no. Now, however, it's too late to do anything.

there are no anti immigration beliefs; we welcome newcomers. The thing that we don't like is illegal immigrants; the ones who show blatant disregard for our laws, traffic drugs and still expect the government to pay for them. -and the government does.-

Yes, because there's no difference between a lawful working illegal or a drugrunning illegal.
The general attitude of certain individuals reeks with pro-American, anti-everyone else behavior. Some political groups, such as the Tea Party, are absorbing and feeding those ideas.
To me that's just the very start of a path towards second class citizenship, expulsion, or genocide.

The fact that they still refuse to call it a genocide is just as bad.

i refuse to call midgets dwarfs, because i just don't see why they want to be compared to their more awesome mythical counterparts. same difference. no really.

If there are any Adyghe out there, by the way, I'd love to know more about this. It's barely covered anywhere.
We never claimed innocence. Our guilt is freely known to all. Such is the way of Russia.
I was just stating that Russia has been Armenia's guardian for a long time.
We would not want anything to happen to our Armenian brothers, though we wish we could grant them more independence.

No. It isn't. Genocide is just a word. Unless of course you are talking about them refusing to think of it as morally wrong/bad, then yes it is bad.
Explain.

It makes them no better than Holocaust deniers.
May justice be harshly delivered unto those who committed these crimes against your people.
To the rest of you, remember that those who are so eager to forget history are bound to repeat it, be they the victims or the perpetrators.

Russia isn't innocent, either.
