I personally believe guns should be banned. The only purpose of guns is to kill people and animals, that is what is has always been about. Poaching is a huge issue in this world. Animals are getting extinct every day. This is not to mention the killing of people. Even with legally obtained weapons mass killings can easily occur. It is easy to obtain an SKS legally and bump fire in a mall. You can even obtain semi automatic shotguns in some countries.
actually, you can legally buy an AK-47 in America; the only thing is that the full-auto firing pins are illegal, restricting them to semi automatic.
also, I personally own an automatic shotgun(Winchester 12guage), a hunting rifle(Remington 270 model 700, with a Leupold scope.) and spend every day in close proximity to various other guns. Like i said, the guns that are used for shootings are ones that are already illegal.
what you should be afraid of is cars. Way more people get killed by gars daily than by guns. Cars should be illegal. /sarcasm
The problem that always comes up in these discussions it that people try to separate crimes involving guns from the rest of crime. To me it seems like these people don't care about the crime as much as they do the gun. They have grasped on to some ideology and refuse to let go. Who cares that the guy killed somebody when he had a gun?
It's not the gun that's the problem, it's the crime.

Have you ever heard of bump firing? Some semi automatic weapons can be converted to fully automatic, most notably the Tec9. Do you know that illegal weapons has to be stolen from somewhere, restricting the use of weapons will reduce the amount of weapons of the black market too.
What exactly are you saying? You haven't said anything about owning guns. You've just mentioned the massacre in Norway where someone took a gun and killed a heap of people, which is hardly advocating a good reason why guns should be handed out to everybody like lollipops.
I also hate this "guns don't kill people, people kill people" ********. Guns are weapons designed to kill or seriously injure people. Nobody buys a gun because they think it matches their lounge suite. The only reason to buy a gun is if you intend to use it.
I live in Australia. Nobody has guns here, or at least the vast majority of people don't. I don't know anyone who owns a gun. I have always felt completely safe here, and the murder rate is about a quarter of that in america. Funny that.
1st, i once bought a WW2 colt for my living room
2nd, guns HAVE NEVER killed a person on their own, they only kill when acted on by another force
And just for grins, i bring you my opinion on anti-gun laws
Anti-gun laws are well-intentioned pieces of legislature written by well-intentioned people, but they don't ever seem to work. Why? Because they are aimed at people who obtain guns LEGALLY, and chances are that a person who legally buys a gun is not going to go out and kill someone, relative to someone who buys a gun illegally.

just my opinion, feel free to differ
People that want guns for decoration buys non-functional replicas, not working guns. The guns obtained by criminals must be obtained somewhere, mostly stolen from legal gun owners.

What about people who enjoy recreational or sport shooting? There are a bunch of sports that use firearms, they need functional firearms, right?

The colt I bought is non-functional, as it has a warped barrel (it still matches the couch though :smile.gif: ), however, I do have several other working firearms, as well as other means of defending myself. Also, guns obtained illegally can be bought out of country, making gun bans null and void. The point is, if someone wants to kill you with a gun, writing on paper won't stop them, it'll make it easier for them to preform the task.
There is alternatives such as paintballing and airsoft.
Not for everyone. You can't accurately hit a target 100 meters away with either paintball or airsoft. How are you going to hit (much less destroy) a clay pigeon with one? Or are you implying that people should stop doing these things altogether?

I'm so tired of this argument. You can apply it to anything. Tanks have never killed a person on their own. Atomic bombs haven't hurt a single person on their own. Fighter jets can't hurt anyone without an outside force.
No, you can't. All the weapon systems and the hardpoints must be removed before it can be legally purchased by a civilian.
Where are you going with this?
That the argument of guns not killing people without interaction from a human doesn't make very much sense, as I can apply it to a battleship full cannons and advanced weaponry and it still applies. Battleships don't kill people, people in control rooms kill people.
Scenario 1: "A person shoots another person to death, the latter person had no chance of escape."
Scenario 2: "A person tries to chase after another person and beat the to death, the latter person has a higher chance to escape."
Yeah, guns sure don't have any role in killings.

I'm with the speedrunning community and this [below] is a semi-annual charity marathon we hold.
Which is a problem because?
Semi auto shotguns are preferred for competition shooting. Even some of the most anti-gun countries allow semi-auto shotguns.
I think the number fifty is too low.

The redneck full auto mod for the SKS is pretty easy too. What's your point? Also, what does bump firing have to do with full auto mods?

Yeah, I know. No matter how much you restrict guns, crazy people will always be around.

So why can't I have a fighter jet?
Can I equip it with missiles and high caliber rounds?
