I was excited when I read on the wiki yesterday that Silverfish will rarely generate in blocks underground. I thought it would make the game harder. Then they updated it saying they spawn underground, but only in Extreme Hills biomes... Am I allowed to ask why only that biome?
First it was Emerald Ore that only spawns in Extreme Hills biomes, which I thought was odd, but did not bother me that much. But now there are 2 rare blocks spawning in Extreme Hills biome? Why do they both spawn in Extreme Hills biomes and not anywhere also? And why Extreme hills biome?
My avatar is a two tailed fox named Miles "Tails" Prower. He may only be 8 years old,but he is a highly skilled engineer. He stands 2'7" tall, and can use his tails to fly short distances, and run at near supersonic speeds.
I'm wondering the same thing. I want the silverfish stones in every biome. It would make more sense if they didn't spawn in EH because they are colder biomes, and I would assume that they would prefer warmer climates, like jungles over colder climates.
You totally forgot the thing about brown sheep! 50% chance for them to spawn in Extreme Hills versus 3%.
EXTREMEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Did not know that until now...

I think they're trying to make the mountain biome have the most underground content. After all, Extreme Hills has the more caves compared to any other biome. They have emeralds, and now this. Still makes little sense though.
I guess it gives reason to live in the Extreme Hills biome if you're a miner. But still...
Well that change makes sense to me. Brown Sheep in real life tend to live at higher atlitudes. Silverfish and Emeralds makes no sense to me.
Well, maybe they just live under higher pressures? I mean if you've got a giant mountain on the ground versus the ocean, more pressure, right? So, maybe that's the terrain Silverfeesh like, and that's the kind of land the Emeralds can generate in. :3

RED LOGIC HATERS
Like people said before, if they HAVE to be biome specific, I would prefer them being in the desert since they seem like a hot climate mob. But I would still prefer they spawn anywhere. Same with emeralds.

Jeb said he wanted to keep the ore rare, and that he did. He was going to remove the ore, so honestly I'm glad we even get it in limited forms.
The silverfish however... well, I'd like them to at least drop something.
I feel that jeb is working on making all Biomes fun to go to . between temples and this people will have reason to travel
More biome-unique content is perfectly fine, but Silverfish really could have used some love. Making them appear along cave walls for all biomes would have given them a very nicely defined role in the world among mobs (making their homes in all caves, upping the danger level). Plus it would have had the secondary function of explaining why the Minecraft world is swiss cheese; it's all the Silverfish's fault!
To me it just look like they wanted some sort of challenge exclusively for people wanting to branch mine for emerald ore.
So yeah, you want to poke holes in the entire extreme hill biome in search for emeralds? Expect some resistance!
But in reality, I haven't heard of a single player who branch mine for emeralds, they are just a bonus for caves/mineshafts in said biome.
The way villager trading works nowadays just makes emerald ores from the hills totally worthless. Unless you want them for decoration.
I do hope they change this so that silverfish appear in all biomes so that I have a bit of an occasional challenge when mining. I don't really go into EH biomes much because the grass colour is very 'EH'.

Leprechauns and beerThe grass colour also put me off from building there. I like it bright.
I do.......... so now you know at least one.
In my builds i like to use emeralds and this is the best way for me.
