The official prerelease for Minecraft 1.7 is out, which means the Final release is probably coming within one to two weeks.
...That's what I thought until I saw this in the release notes:
"Here’s a list of cool things that may be coming your way on Friday, if the pre-release goes well!"
So, we may be getting 1.7 sooner than we thought.
My biggest question is, do you guys plan to keep your old worlds or are you scrapping them and starting from scratch for 1.7?
Months ago, I had been expecting 1.7 to come out around the date of MineCon.
I'm not sure whether I want to scrap my world or not. Back in January of this year, I started a new survival world and told myself that I would keep it and not scrap it. This update might change my mind though.
I just deleted a whole bunch of chunks I never used in my primary world, generated new terrain in 1.7 and then smoothed out the chunk edged with World Painter. Ended up looking quite nice.

Wait what. You can go to a pre existing world in worldpainter? Tell me your secrets all might one.
I will probably start a new world but on amplified and I want to get a dark forest ;u

I'll keep the map on my server unless something untold happens. Updated to the snapshot yesterday, and haven't gotten any bad feedback, so looking good

Hi! If you're 18 or older and literate, you're hereby invited to my vanilla server.
I really wasn't expecting it to come out so early, now I'm not prepared. lol
----I'll probably make a new world because I have very few diamond ore left in my area but didn't tweak the enchant system to where it doesn't gobble up xp/resources like nuts. Repairing a diamond pick with 3 enchants will cost 21 lvls and a diamond, be jealous..
I posted no, but in reality I have started a new world. I just intend to keep both and use a multi world plug-in on bukkit to have access to both.
On my main world I've had for years I do plan on removing some old, unused chunks and letting them fill back in with the new generator. I know it will make uguly borders, but I have them already, and I know how to fix them.
So in short I don't see why I need to give up everything I've built.

You can import pre-existing worlds fairly easily from the file menu. There are options for making chunks that the player has modified in-game read only, so you can't mess with them in World Painter, but you can screw it all and completely rebuild the world if you so see fit.
New; however, I'm kind of cheating. Planning to import my Behemoth Ender Ender from my current world because I'm far too lazy to spend another 8 hours building it from scratch.
unfortunately, 1.6.4 oceans just get cut off in 1.7. It doesn't seem like they took that into consideration with the new biome generation =/
If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know.
When generating new terrain it goes off of what the generator says. It would be too complex to tag every block as '1.6 block' etc. and create some kind of makeshift transition border.

Why would I scrap my world? D: It's from early Alpha and has everything I've ever done in it.

According to Mojang, it's coming out tomorrow.
