Well, whether or not something is good really falls to personal opinion, so I don't really see how one could explain how it's good without their personal opinion on it.
I said in one of my other posts that I thought that the developers
Just had to get an update to keep the game on its feet
Because when you think about it 1.5 came around I'm pretty sure 4-3 months ago
Well, the good side of it is, that mojang is actually listenning to what their players say!
We've been waiting for horses a long time ago, and that's great, just awesome.
But on the other side, we've got a bunch of bugs, that's not a big problem tough, since the 1.6.2 is comming out anytime soon.
I don't understand why they would implement horses in the first place. I mean there are several mods that cater horses and more than mojang offers, I.E. Saddle Crafting Recipes.
I like a lot of people don't use mods because that means it's Minecraft + mods which isn't Minecraft. If Mojang wanted to go out and pull all those mods in, no problem. It would then be part of the vanilla game.
Horses make it so fast to get around now. Quick jots out to the desert to get sand for glass for example. Climbing tall hills is a breeze on a horse.

And mods adding something means it can NEVER be in the basegame at all doesn't it? What's that? It doesn't? Then why bring it up?
The only reason why I hesitate with the mods is that every time the game gets updated you have to fiddle with it again and again. Every mod takes time to update and all that. In addition some mods (not all and not all the time) are just as buggy as the main game. However the people modding are not paid to fix it. They have other lives so well. Sometimes it's just a pain in the ass to get mods to work. And no I'm not condemning all the mods. I love the Bukkit and it's slue of mods for the game. I would not be playing Minecraft without it. But it is what it is. A buggy, thing you have to tinker with.
Brings me to the 1.6.1 update.
Do I like it right now?
Lets see I'm on a broken Dev build of the bukkit, none of the plug'ins I use are up to date, half of the ones I normally use are broken, Optifine is down at the moment (95% ready :)), and this updates slue of bugs has smashed me over the head. I lost my entire herd (twice), and for some reason the road I'm building back to civilization on my server didn't save so I have to do it again. On occasion I also manage to crash to desktop. The new launcher made me learn how to mod .jar files again, with no help from Mojang on that front.
I'm gonna say no....Not at the moment am I happy with my choice to update.
Now I want to stress it was my choice to update and that has bit me in the ass (O ya lost 4 of them too!) this time around. I know better two. But I wanted to play with the horses so what could go wrong the Bukkit Dev build came out. I've never had problems before...
1.6.1 has the ultimate distinction of being the first update to ever making me toss up my hands in defeat, shut my server down, and go play another game for a few days.
Ya...Next time I'll wait.
Now in a month from now when 1.6.2 is out, bukkit is on at least a Beta, the plug'ins are up and running, and I have my FPS back to normal, my horses are...stable (yep....I said it)... I'm probably going to like it.
Ever notice that sometimes the things you love, you off the most?
Minecarts are a more structured form of transportation. They have to stay on rails that you've placed beforehand, but are useful for moving large amounts of items/mobs. Pigs don't really have a practical purpose; they are more for fun than transportation.
I don't have lag issues (unlike just about everyone else) however, there's not much good about the update. I suppose the stained clay/hardened clay is pretty awesome, but we really didn't need hay, or leads or anything. But that's just my opinion.
"Blah Blah Horses best mob evar" Y u no respect Mojang, freaking nostalgia player you suck! Don't update!"
I want some good reasons why 1.6 is good not some people saying personal opinions without some reasoning.

The problem is the insane amount of bugs. I just wish the dev team took more time to update them.
Quoting from my post of recent post about Alpha players.
This can applies to others.
P/S: I'm neutral about most of the updates jeb_ gave me.

A lot of other people do. You don't have to use them.
1.6.2 will be out soon with a lot of bug fixes, But I doubt anyone would complain if 1.7 was the Bugfix Update.
Hey everyone, I'm back!
