I'm just curious why dissenting opinion is removed from the boards. At least once a week a topic takes off with numerous people discussing just how horrible the updates have gotten and within a few days, despite hundreds of posts, it disappears.
We aren't critics, we're just players wondering why we get features we never asked for (fireworks and heads) or were directly ripped from mods (ender chest, various new food items) instead of features we were promised years ago:
-A rendering system that doesn't require a third-party addon
-Ocean content to fill or make use of all that water
-Mod API, Mod API, Mod API
And I'm sure the list is much longer and much more difficult to defend as necessary, but those 3 have been on top of a lot of people's priorities for literally years.
*shrug*
I haven't given Mojang any more of my money at least.

Because threads like these cause pointless flame wars.

Fireworks were a suggestion for at least 2 years.
or were directly ripped from mods (ender chest, various new food items) instead of features we were promised years ago:
Dude, are you seriously complaining about fireworks and mob heads...
I mean, I understand you assume those features take away from the ones you want, but seriously, fireworks and mob heads are "Hello World!" compared to a new rendering system or Mod API.
Anyway, they are working on both of those, but obviously they take longer than fireworks and in turn are not released yet, just chill out, Notch promised a lot of things he didn't deliver, Jeb is taking the best ideas (like the mod API) and is having the team add them.

You can have the API now, or you can have it when it actually works. No amount of whining will ever change that.

It does? I see these threads with hundreds and hundreds of posts still lying around, useless as they are. If a thread was removed, it was likely due to the thread being redundant or dissolving into incoherent arguments. Your opinions aren't being squished out.
-A rendering system that doesn't require a third-party addon
-Ocean content to fill or make use of all that water
-Mod API, Mod API, Mod API
1. Runs fine for me. And you are aware they're rewriting the render engine now, right?
2. I assume they're just busy with other things.
3. Mod APIs for already well-developed software isn't easy. They've been working on it for a good while now.
And I'm sure the list is much longer and much more difficult to defend as necessary, but those 3 have been on top of a lot of people's priorities for literally years.
Even if Mojang added 100 things the community most wanted, people would still complain and demand more. This community is never happy. You should be grateful they give you free updates, whether they fully meet your criteria or not.
While the Mod API has been talked about before and it was supposedly to be included in Beta 1.7 nothing was ever promised and I believe they are working in earnest on it now by rewriting the lighting and rendering engine (no small feat in itself) while maintaining these engines so the game continues to work. I think two of the few game devs that work on Minecraft were put to the sole task of developing the API. I think the 1.4 update and what they're putting out now (like fireworks) is really just something to tide us over while the API is being coded, otherwise some of the community would complain about the silence/lack of updates on Mojang's part.
A bunch? As far as I'm aware he simply considered many concepts and ideas. Mostly the promises he made he delivered on.
First, I don't care what Notch 'promised' and what he actually did, I am just glad they don't charge for updates.
Second, I worded that wrong, I understand he didn't promise much stuff, but he talked about his ideas on Twitter (or whatever) and all the people you see complaining he didn't add those things he said he thought of always say he 'promised' to add them, but really he was just posting his ideas on the internet, I understand that, but these people that rant that they were 'promised' stuff do not.

-Mod API, Mod API, Mod API
- Getting features that you didn't ask for? How is that bad. Did you ever ask for Minecraft to exist? Most of the things they add can be NOT used by the player.
- Just because Dinnerbone and Jeb keep releasing new content doesn't mean there aren't other people that work on the MOD API. Did you know that they have to completely rewrite most of the Minecraft engine so it works with the Mod API. Lighting, Redstone are so buggy, it can't be released with the API.
Mojang has a reason for everything they do. To you, it might not be legitimate, but you must be aware that a company with more than 8 million registered users knows what they are doing.
Honestly, if you don't like fireworks or mob heads, don't use them. You don't have to use them. They're working on the Mod API. Good things take time. Would you rather have a buggy, barely-working mod API right now or a smooth, working one in a few updates time? They're working on a new rendering system right now.
a. i have never understood why someone would complain about their mod being added to the game. you'd think it's the greatest honor in the world, for the developers of the game you modded to think your mod is so great they decide to implement it!
b. threads like these get removed due to them dissolving into flame wars. particularly those of people who are too stubborn to listen to the arguments of others.
c. they add little tiny features to keep whiners happy. if they spend all their time with massive, amazing updates like the Mod API, you'd see this board of the forums flooded with "WHERE IS NEW UPDAET!!!?!??1/1?!?" threads.
Why are all people angry like this? Because in Alpha, when the game was taking shape and advancing very quickly, there were 2 or 3 updates in a week that added cool features. That was because the game was "young" in these years and people who bought Minecraft were in a peak stage. They added a lot of features, and then the Beta period came. In Beta, the updates frequencies' slowed down because all of the "major" features were already added in. And when the game finally released, they started to focus on bugfixes mainly because the game was complete. That's why there are no "major feature" updates. The game has finally took shape.
TL;DR:
There's nothing to add so they fix bugs.

Just wait until the terrain, biomes, and dimensions get their updates. After that the game will be much more fun to play like in the earlier days.
As it stands now, once you find each biome and network them with the nether theres not much else to do exploration wise, besides beat the game. The other dimensions kinda suck. But if minecon is any sign of the future it will be much better.

You could just have added to it and see if we could break one thousand posts.
I see your frustration with the mod API being delayed, but it will not automagically generate thousands of good mods. Modders will, and they are already working.
As for ocean content, I think it is a very long way off. If it is to be interesting to live and explore under the sea, water has to be rewritten to allow non-opaque blocks to exist in water blocks, and some way of not creating strong currents by digging a hole, or even worse: Making a safe spot just by digging sidewards. My guess is that they tried to wrap their head around it a couple of times, but still have not come up with a decent solution. And when it happens, it will probably break just about every known water contraption we have.

Fireworks were a suggestion for at least 2 years.
Ender chests were a suggestion from Reddit. Modders did not invent Carrots and Potatoes, the earth did.
- 1.5
- Possibly 1.6, not a priority in a rendering engine re-write.
-1.5, 1.5, 1.5.

So now Mojang is obligated to put everything on earth into updates? Because they exist on earth?
The OP was acting as if Mojang ripped idea of Potatoes and Carrots from mods, which is a dumb thing to assume because they're not exclusive to mods.
