I'm a bit worried about a random fire starting somewhere in a loaded chuck and going out of control before it's noticed.
I've seen natural fires during the day when it's not raining, such as a lava pool on the surface which happened to spawn near a tree which in turn caught on fire. If something like that happened near a newly generated jungle.....
It used to happen in the Alpha when there was no fire spread restriction, but it wasn't that bad, of course there was no jungle, but I don't think lava pools can spawn in jungles so it's kinda safe. Although the fire spread restrictions will only be removed on Hard mode so if you're playing on normal mode you're safe.
Welcome to the OLD fire spread new player. Back when fire was a such a source of terror some servers would ban its use. When with a single flint and steel you could level a lag causing forest or burn down within a minute your entire house.
Well I've only been playing since 1.7.3 so I never had to deal with insane fire spread. Also I do play on hard difficulty and have an almost all wood starting base
Maybe they'll make it so that lava pools don't generate on the surface in the coming update.
Why? I have not played a server yet in all this time running on hard. And servers can disable fire spread anyway. If you see a wild fire you can hit game onto peaceful. If you are playing hardcore, then you are playing hardcore (Its not suppose to be fair or easy).
We used to tell people all the time do not build houses out of wood and if you do, do not have lava/burning netherack inside it.
Just for nostalgia's sake, I decided to light one fire at the edge of a jungle.
An hour later, it was still burning, I had to make a hasty fire break using buckets of water to prevent the grass fire from spreading to the forest near my house, and I got to see this huge blob of dark green on my map go away after looking at it.
I love the return of the old fire spread code. Granted, I've had to rebuild some of my fire places because the old design ignited a paneled ceiling, but it's a small price to pay for the majesty of the old fire code.

It's such a lovely night for a fire.
Infinite fire spread is back? Awesome! Die jungle, you don't belong in this world!

"Sometimes, I just wanna give up, say 'I'm done with this mess' and go to bed. But you know what; you can't shrug off your responsibilities. You got to pull yourself up and meet the challenges head on. That's the only way you're gonna get ahead in life."
I'm all for this as a component of Hard difficulty. People that aren't seeking a challenge aren't playing on Hard anyways. I'm pretty careful with fire as it is, ever since it burned down my house. Twice.

Make note: I generally avoid being insulting. If I sound insulting, I'm probably joking.

Sometimes, I'd have to delete whole worlds because of that. I would start out in a world that had dense tree growth, and while making my house, I would see some flames in the distance. By nightfall, the entire continent that I was on would be a burning inferno. There was also the glitch where wood would not burn away most of the time, so you were left with a flaming skeleton of a tree.

Don't set random fires, then! XD
Seriously. Rapid fire spread actually makes fire a threat. Which is exactly how it should be in Hard.
If it is too hard for you, you shouldn't play on Hard. Hard is for players who complain that Normal is too easy.

The Internet is a big place, friend. I've been places you've n͍̺e̩v̦e̦̰͍͓̩ͅr̜̭̝̬̬͉̤̬ ͙ịm̖͇a͍͇̤͙̥g̤̘i͔͖̤̼̪̬n͖͔̳̬̯e̩̘ḓ͈͔̠̙͇̼̯.͎
I remember once in beta 1.4 I was testing flint and steel and caught one wood on fire thinking it wasn't connected to any other trees, but it was. I BARELY stopped the fire before it got to my house leaving a small bit of forest infront of it left. Doesn't sound scary, now does it? Well, what if I told you the fire was ignited 500 blocks away from my house? Yeah, fire is dangerous, just like in real life.

I missed it so much. I hate forest biomes.

The pools do appear in jungle biomes.
I'm all for the old fire code so long as it can be toggled.
Make a break on the boundaries you desire, and set a couple of fires at the edges and move in to clean up.
Not being able to do that seriously ramped up the time consumption needed for forest projects.
But if you can't handle fire in your worlds, as Smokey the Bear says, only YOU can prevent wildfires.
Back when the old fire spread was around, I watched over my fires so they don't go crazy, by the way.
I've encountered a surface lava pool that destroyed a forest back in Alpha 1.2.6
I'm also happy about the fire buff.
