Here is my Visual Report for your 12w24a Seed: 7750707565573194702
The Larking Island Continent, and surrounding Ocean of Dread * This entire report is a Spoiler for this Seed. Do not read or view it if you want to retain 99% mystery.
This is a fascinating seed indeed, whether you play on the Normal-size Biome version or the LargeBiomes size version.
- You spawn on an almost archipelago looking (not a real archipelago though) Island-Continent in the middle of a massive Ocean to all sides.
- There is a smaller though more solid looking sister island-continent just to the South-West of you, though still a little ways over the water and beyond visual range. It is over half Frozen Tundra but also has a good variety of other biomes on the other half. There is a large Mooshroom Biome actually connected to the Tundra at the most remote South-West corner of the this island-continent (Might be an interesting survival test to change spawn to there).
- Other than these two sister Island-Continents, the closest (and more massive) land masses that can be reached are to the North-North-West (Closest), and to the South-South-West (Farther).
- There are other Continents to be found in other directions (aside from deep ocean Mooshroom islands), but they are incredibly far away...
Here are some Mega-Scale maps of this seed. * Don't look at them if you think it'll ruin anything for you.
- I have placed a red dot on the approximate 0,0 location (x=0)(z=0) of all these maps for reference.
- Most of these maps have a Grid enabled. At these resolutions you will just see what looks like a grid of black dots.
-- For the NormalBiomes-Size Maps version of the seed: Each Grid mark is 1Km apart.
-- For LargeBiomes-Size Maps version of the seed: Each Grid mark is 4Km apart.
- These maps were made using the normal biome size version (only way to make the maps this large), so the village and stronghold etc markers will not be accurate for LargeBiomes maps. Use AMIDST if you want that info.

Ok we have a hardcore, LARGE BIOME server and went exploring.
We started in nether and went to x-1.000, we spawned in the overworld in a ocean biome at x-8.000, we decided to go back to nether and go a bit further we ended up at overworld x-12.000 ocean biome. We decided to boat it from there on now we boated up to x-42.000 and we are still going. (well i am)
Now this is large biomes but a 30k block in lenght and still going ocean biome seems waaaaaaaaay to large.
Anyone else had this, is it really supposed to be that big am i unlucky or is it a bug.
Having large oceans so you cant see or swimg quickly across is fine, but having to boat for over 2hours and still no real landmass (not even mooshrooms) is boring and to time consuming.
It's not just you, several people complained about it even before the large biome feature. But I'm with you, the oceans are big, boring and useless.
Oh but don't tell the "real" Minecraft fans (which apparently means people who have too much free time on their hands). They'll just spew ******** to defend how it's "challenging", "realistic" or how you can just regenerate (and get another big empty ocean biome), or list non-existent features that Jeb has no intention of adding like sunken ships or Atlantis.
30k + Ocean? AWESOME!! LOL. That's actually kinda funny. Yeah, I'm one of those people BlockArranger was talking about, I am glad we have oceans. They just need to do a little more with them is all.
Regarding Large Biomes. The Biome structure, shape and placement for them is exactly the same as for the Normal size Biome structure with the same seed, except the Large version scales it to larger. I don't know the exact multiplier ratio though. [EDIT] 4x larger in each direction [/Edit]
So essentially, as large as normal oceans are, multiply that size by whatever the Large Biome multiplier is and that is how big they can be in Large Biomes. Pretty darn big it would seem.
btw: Do you mind sharing the seed of that map? I would love to check that out. And if you have the seed and are running the same version of minecraft as the seed was made on, you can quickly see a full Biome map of it using AMIDST. If the size of the ocean is really being a problem for you guys then it might be worth using Amidst to check it out.
Fact is, with the limited viewing distance in this game you could have passed right by land many many times already, going through "narrow" channels between oceans. You could have actually crossed several oceans by now and not known it.
Cool, thanks for the pic. It would make the game even more interesting if they had some completely new types of Biomes and such at a very long distance away like that. I mean, 55k.. wow.

Protip: If you don't like the massive ocean you've found yourself in upon world generation, make a new world.
If you're on land at the beginning you don't need to worry about oceans, they are a backdrop and are not neccesarily meant to be crossed unless you really want to, and if you attempt this you only have yourself to blame if it takes ages.
If you spawn in an ocean biome on the other hand, and you don't want to be in the middle of an ocean, delete the world and make a new one, or get the owner too. Doesn't take long.
To sum up, you only have yourself to blame for extended periods of time lost at sea.
Now this is large biomes but a 30k block in lenght and still going ocean biome seems waaaaaaaaay to large.
I had a similar situation (in a large biome world I ended up with a world that was a chain of islands (with one large one and several smaller ones).
Eventually I wanted to find a 'continent', so I went sailing...it did feel rather more epic when I finally did find one after about 30 - 40 minutes of boating. I'd suggest a nether portal to get back (I set out with the materials to make one and had previously made a nether portal near home, so I had one already in the Nether that could for sure get me where I needed to be). It's not that hard to find your way back if you orient yourself with a compass before entering the Nether. Cuts the travel time down to something like five minutes for me now that I've got my path back clearly marked.
Large biomes generator magnifies all biomes and map generation by 16x; the x and z coordinates are multiplied by 4 compared to a normal Minecraft world. So a relatively decent-sized ocean on default will have its area vastly expanded.
On the plus side, it's kind of like real life oceans, and when oceans get more features they will be pretty cool.
On the downside, oceans are extremely boring as they are now.
So yeah. I don't particularly want the size fixed so much as I want the lack of content fixed.
Oh but don't tell the "real" Minecraft fans (which apparently means people who have too much free time on their hands). It's great to know I'm a "real Minecraft fan"! My choice of spewing today will involve something about large oceans being "challenging" and "realistic". I hope there's more ocean features in the future but I don't feel that they are required to justify large oceans.
Does anyone know if large oceans generate on all maps? In other words, am I guaranteed to be able to sail around around my spawn point? Is land in Minecraft ultimately an island or a landmass with "oceans" in the middle or does it depend on the seed?
I map alot of areas in my MC worlds, and I can honestly tell you that I've only made one map before that is more land than water. Now, this isn't a totally great study because I don't map all of the areas that I go to, but it's still something to think about.
Do we really need more water than land, especially when the only useful thing about water is squid, clay, and the water itself?

There are large ocean in all maps. However, the continents can be really big, to the point that you may never reach an ocean without hiking in a straigh line for a hour. I've seen (with AMIDST) continents that were 100k block in diameter, with lot of smaller "lake" in them and a swarm of 2 and 3 biomes islands around them. There are also smaller continents (of the order of a few k block). However, from what I've seen, all the large oceans are connected while the continents are separated.
All maps pretty much show the same large scale structures, large continents separated by large oceans. The density of ocean and land doesn't seem to change with distance from the center. If you sail in a straigth line in an ocean, you will always find a continent. It may take a while, the distance between continent is of the order of 10k, and if you miss a continent you could possibly sail in a straigth line for 100k. As a tip, if you have sailed for 50k, make a 90 degrees turn, you're probably sailing parallel to a coast. Also, if you walk in a straight line on a continent you will always fall on an ocean.
As a side note, the continents have very rugged coastline and contain a lot of large lake (ocean biomes). Sometime, you may think you are next to an "endless" ocean while it's only a lake in the middle of a continent. Also, Mushroom biome spawn mostly in a ocean biome (the exception being when it spawn along the coast, a mushroom biome never spawn in the middle land), and can appear in these lakes.
An average continent ;
Separation between this continent and other continents ;
However, there's still this (there's a continent 50K in the south-east direction) ;
The beige speckles in the ocean are all mushrooms biomes.
So yeah, you definitly can sail around the continent on which you spawn. However, it's probably going to take you a while, especially if you closely follow to coast. I'm talking more than 100k unless your continent is small.

If you use AMIDST, you can see that the large biome maps are scaled up versions of the normal maps if you use the same seed. Oceans are much larger. If you don't want to spawn in an ocean, I recommend just looking for a seed that someone else has posted. It doesn't matter if the one posted is large or normal. You will still spawn in the same biome.

Would you complain about a game being too easy on the EASY setting? No?
Then why would you complain about biomesbeing too large on the LARGE BIOME setting?
You looked at it? You looked at it... oh no.
Oh no, oh no, oh no.

I believe you should be able to use /seed, even if you aren't an OP. I think. It's worth a try, anyway, because I'd like that seed myself.
