For anybody who did not understand my complaint, I want the Nether terrain to be raised to full height.
That's not going to happen for the same reasons that the overworld terrain isn't being increased. The new height system only has a low impact on performance so long as the height is filled with air blocks.
What will probably happen is the height will be reverted to 128 in the Nether or things just won't spawn up there (whichever is easier.) A 1:2 ratio would be used for portal height.

i dont think the nether height should have been raised.
currently there isn't enough to do in the nether to justify the extra space. how many pigmen and blocks of netherack does one need?
Besides that, due the all animations that ocurr on the nether at the same time, it might be a lot laggy if they add content above the current layer. I mean, imagine all the possible nether wart and shroom growth, the lava, the fire and the mobs... On the overworld theres nothing (naturaly generated) over layer 128, just "empty" space. So yes, i agree with you
I just wish mobs would stop spawning up there. My pigmen farm is getting terrible rates now thanks to it, not to mention every 20-30 min's I have to leave as it starts lagging me with all of em up there.
This is a MAJOR issue for me, its causing issues with my blaze and netherwart farms as well. I am also running low on glowstone again, I cant go gather more since its such a long trip to new area's and i refuse to build portals all over.
The images in the original post in this thread show no mobs, but he might have had difficulty on peaceful.
I should probably have tested this before coming here, but I believe that mobs are unable to spawn on bedrock. This is a change they did in one of the updates after the release of Anvil for the sole purpose of fixing the issue of mobs spawning on the roof of The Nether. Unless someone beats me to it, I'll test it when I get home from work in about 8 hours.
Edit: Tested and confirmed. No mobs are spawning on the bedrock roof in The Nether.
Edit: I like bluevein's idea of just replacing the upper level of nether world with bedrock.
Oh god no, the upper area of must be kept as air blocks unless you'd prefer to have the performance be so bad the game would crask upon loading the chunks.
Simple fix, make mushrooms unable to grow on bedrock.

For the record if I correct you it's not meant maliciously, but if you whine about it I AM laughing at you.
Even if that was the case the game would still check frequently if it can grow a mushroom up there. The mushroom won't grow, but the game still checks for it.
Isn't that only on first generation? I don't think mushrooms spontaneously generate without other mushrooms nearby.

You are correct.

False. A couple of days ago in SMP, I died in the nether and respawned above the bedrock. Quite frustrating.

No mobs spawn above the roof in the Nether. That include ghasts.
